AGM and Committee Meeting

posted 2 May 2012 08:09 by Paul Watson

Minutes from both meetings are on the The Committee page.

AGM - Tuesday 17th April at 7:30pm

posted 5 Apr 2012 02:54 by Dragons Running Club ‎(Sale)‎

This year’s club AGM will be held on Tuesday 17th April at 7.30pm in the bar where we normally meet for the runs.

We realise that this is short notice but the AGM is overdue so we hope as many people as possible can make it.  The club committee has remained reasonably static for a few years and we think it’s time to shake things up a little.  We are therefore inviting people to join the committee to help with the running of the club.  We won’t be making the committee bigger as this is not necessary but a few members (myself included) will be stepping down.

If you would like to be involved please let us know, if you can’t make the AGM then that’s not a problem.

The proposed agenda will include:

1) Welcome

2) Chairman's Report

3) Treasurer's Report

4) Committee Members Election

5) AOB

Please let me know if you have any questions, issues or items you would like to raise for the meeting.  I’ll send a reminder with more information next week.

It’s also time to renew those membership fees  and these will remain at £10 for the 2012/13 period.  The preferred method of payment is by cheque, payable to our Treasurer “Claire Parry”.  Cheques can be left in the running club folder behind reception, preferably in an envelope with your name and address.  As I will be stepping down from the role of club secretary, now is the perfect time for someone else to take over as we can manage the membership renewals together.

Hope to see you at the AGM.

Speed/Hill Training 1st March 2012

posted 28 Feb 2012 01:02 by Dragons Running Club ‎(Sale)‎

As mentioned last week, we have exceptionally moved our Last Thursday of the Month for "February" to this Thursday, i.e. 1st March...  Not long now and we will be able to go back to the Water Parks when the clocks have gone forward next month!!  So for the last time of this winter season (I hope), we will be going back to Delahays Hill...

Hope to see you there!
Nicole :-)

Speed/Hill Training

"February" Thursday Training Session with a Difference 1 March 2012

Bus Stop on Thorley Lane (opposite side of the road when coming from Sale) near traffic lights at Delahays Rd/Thorley Ln/Grove Ln Timperley WA15 at 6.30pm

Meet at the bus stop on Thorley Lane on the opposite side of the road when coming from Sale, near the traffic lights at Delahays Road/Thorley Lane/Grove Lane for 6.30pm.  Anyone running there from the gym, it's about 2.5 to 3 miles...

Warm-up together for about 1 mile (from traffic lights through Grove Lane, looping round to Hale Road, down Delahays Road to Carr Road)

* Speed/hill intervals/team events for about 30 minutes

* Cool-down together for about 1 mile (loop back round to the bus stop)

* Stretches

These training sessions are for everyone, irrespective of your ability.  If you have only run with us on Tuesdays before because you feel unsure about running 10k continuously, come and try this out.  You can run at your own pace, work a little harder on some sections followed by rest or recovery on other sections.  There will be lots of opportunity to interact with everyone too.

Please bring water – you’ll be thirsty! You might want to bring a watch and/or heart rate monitor, depending on how technical you want to get. This session will be run on pavements, so your normal trainers should be fine.

Looking forward to seeing you at Thorley Lane bus stop on 1 March 2012!

Fearless Duathlon (12th February 2012)

posted 28 Feb 2012 00:57 by Dragons Running Club ‎(Sale)‎

There were some great results for the Dragons at the Fearless Duathlon in Llandegla at the MTB course.  The Relay team of Jon Tan and Phil Morley won the team event and Paul Watson came third overall.

The race report below is from the Fearless website:

"In surprisingly mild weather over 180 hardy souls pounded around a 7km ‘warm-up’ first run, negotiated a tricky, ice-strewn 19km bike course and then sprinted around the final 4km run clambering up our very own ‘hill of death’ on the way.

We expected a great race from our most competitive field of athletes yet. Nikalas Cook, last years winner, was determined to retain his crown against athletes of the calibre of Ifan Richards, Welsh international fell runner and Mark Roberts, champion at many previous Uberfit events.
In the women’s field Shan Morris was intent in taking the champions spot after being runner up in 2011.
Further down the field we had many competitors whose ambition was to simply complete the course in one piece which most, fortunately, did!

Ultimately, after some fine racing, Ifan stormed home first followed closely by Nick with Shan coming in as ‘Runner-up’ to our hockey-playing Champion Gemma Foley. Well done to them all and to everybody else who had the guts and mental determination to complete the 2012 FEARLESS.
You were all stars!"

Full details of the race, results and more photos are on the Uberfit website at:  http://www.uberfitevents.com/fearless.html

Speed/Hill Training - 26 January 2012

posted 25 Jan 2012 15:10 by Paul Watson

Hi all,

This time it feels like a long time ago...  Because of Christmas and New Year, we didn't have a Last Thursday of the Month in December, but how about we go back to Delahays Hill for our Last Thursday of the Month Session this Thursday?  If anyone has any other suggestions for hill and/or speed training, let me know, and we can change things for next time!!

Cheers
Nicole :-)

THE HIGH PEAK RELAY (13th November 2011)

posted 28 Nov 2011 02:57 by Paul Watson

The High Peak Relay is becoming an annual event for Dragons, and this year two teams of eight runners, with support drivers and spectators, travelled to Matlock on a misty Sunday morning to take part. There were over 20 of us out to enjoy the Derbyshire countryside. Paul and Danny started us off with the difficult up-hill first leg. After Tris described this as the hardest thing he had ever done, we were happy they had volunteered for this challenging start, and when they did emerge from the mist at the top of the hill, the other runners enjoyed relatively flat runs along the High Peak Trail, with the distances for each leg varying between 2.5 and 5.5 miles. The complicated driving plan devised by Jo made sure we didn’t leave anyone stranded in the fog and everyone made it back to the old mill in Cromford, our teams finishing 13th and 29th out of a total of 38. It was a great day out running through some very scenic countryside, followed by an excellent lunch at the Erye Arms in Hassop.
