Christmas Party (11th December 2009) and Santa Run (19th December 2009)
Pete is organising the club Christmas party and Santa Run, the meal/party will be held at Sokrates in Sale on 11th December.  Please ask Pete for more information and to pay a deposit.

The latest running club holiday was a great success with two marathon relay teams and five full marathon runners. The relay was great fun and runners were then able to support team mates further round the course!  More info. and photos on the club holidays page.

It's a shame we just missed the October Beer Festival !!

We'll be planning another trip next year so any suggestions on location are welcome!

Quite a large number of Dragons are took part in this triathlon, with quite a few will be first timers!! It turned out to be a great, long and sunny day with Barrie starting the swim at 08:30 and the last start at around 13:00.  Full details and results on the Triathlon page!

A handful of Dragons travelled to Wales to Race the Train again this year.  With better weather and conditions there was a little less moaning about it being too slippy!?  Rob was on-hand to take some great photo's, click here to see them.

"Race the Train takes place alongside as far as practicable the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back. In order to do this all courses use a mixture of public roads, lanes, un-metalled roads, tracks, agricultural land, and rough grazing pastures." *from the official website*

Sale Sizzlers (Thursday(s) June/July/August)
We've had a lot of runners taking part in the Reebok Manchester 5k Sale Sizzlers this year.  The picture on the left was taken after the 25th June race (Laura's last race with the club before moving to Oz - good luck).  In a more recent race Barrie finally achieved the PB he's been after for quite a long time now!!  The last race in the series is on 6th August. Form more information on entry click here.  For photographs take at various events follow this link to Rob's website.

Dragons Social (Friday 26th June)
Fifty people attended the social at Thai E Sarn (Crazy Wendy's) in West Didsbury, on Friday 26th June, it was a great success!  Pete made a surprise leaving announcement and there was a goodbye cake for Anita (away for two years to Doha) and Mandy (7.5 weeks touring Asia and Indonesia).

Thanks to everybody for attending a really great night out, a great start for the new runners who were there in force, well worth another visit.

Club Handicap Race (Sunday 14th June)
The club held the 3rd handicap race on Sunday 14th June with 13 runners.  The winner was Monica who received a bottle of wine for her success.  Thanks to Tris for organising this and everyone else involved.  The race took in a loop of Chorlton water park from Jackson's Bridge (4.6km approx). In a very similar way the the triathlon we celebrated with more cold beers at Jackson's Boat.  For more pictures click here (thanks Rob).

The Chorlton Triathlon Controversy (Saturday 13th June)

Dragons had three individuals and one relay team (of 3) competing in the Chorlton X Sprint Triathlon on a gloriously sunny weekend.  This consisted of 750m swim, 12.5km bike and 5k run in and around Chorlton water park.  The picture show's us proudly clutching our medals; Nicole (3rd Female) and Tri-Paul (1st relay team).  During the presentation ceremony there were already mumblings that something was not right.  The official (provisional) results now show Nicole as 4th and Tri-Paul as second, discussions with the organisers are ongoing as they have not release any split times.

Regardless of the results, a great day was had by everyone who competed, supported and celebrated with a cold beer at Jackson's Boat afterwards!  For more pictures click here (thanks Rob).

"Olympic champion Sammy Wanjiru smashed Martin Lel's one-year-old course record to win the 2009 Flora London Marathon in a personal best of 2:05:10 after a gripping battle with Ethiopia's Tsegaye Kebede who finished just 10 seconds behind".  Hot on the heels of the leaders were four Dragons from Sale, (this is probably why they were running so fast!?).  Barrie Ainscow, Cat Dodsworth, Jo Healy and Paul Watson all completed the last Flora London Marathon on a particularly hot day with support of other Dragons, family and friends.  Many thanks to all our supporters for cheering us on during those hard miles. The ballot for next years Virgin London Marathon is already full!!

Wilmslow Half Marathon (Sunday 29th March)

Conditions were near perfect for the Wilmslow Half Marathon with plenty of sunshine to keep us warm after the frosty start.  This year the event had been chosen to host the English Half Marathon Championships so there was a fast field and of course plenty of Dragons!   A good number of Dragons obtained PB's and some celebrated with a pint or two in Sale later on.  It must be mentioned that a certain Dragons runner also stopped in the Church Inn for a drink and chat with the local before continuing to complete in 2 hours!

Congratulations to everyone and also for those who ran the Coniston 14.

New Dragons Kit for 2009 (great value!!!)

Now that the club has a new logo we've decided to order some new kit as well.  The vests, t-shirts, shorts etc are all made from wicking fabric.  More vests and t-shirts featuring a large scale logo (see vest image opposite) will also be available very soon. More information on the Club Kit page.

New Dragons Logo:
The club has a new logo designed by Hayley Leaf and agreed by the committee.  Hayley and Eddie created a number of great designs for a new club logo for running vests/t-shirts etc.  The committee chose a mix of two designs to create the image, left (and poorly displayed at the top of the website, I'll try to change that later!).   We're also requesting costs for the vests, t-shirts etc and hope them make then available on sale to all a.s.a.p.

Greek night (28th February) "Bouzouki by night"

A note from Pete on the Greek Night:

"Another excellent night with 45 runners & non runners attending. Many new members attending their first runnning club social event. All seemed to enjoy the night, and were not put off by the compulsary greek dancing, or the greek fancy dress party that joined us later. Thanks to Mark & Ruth for joining me on the dace floor for the cabaret ( sorry about that ). Also thanks to all who gave me cards and presents ( for my birthday ). Next social event in the planning stage !!! Regards Pete"

Committee Minutes (Feb 2009) available on the Committee page.

Park Run - Santa Style

Social on 13th December!

This years Christmas Social event at Dillis in Altrincham was a great success.  Nearly 40 'Dragons' enjoyed the starters/buffet and beers!

Barrie Ainscow also won the ballot for the club place in next years London Marathon (other names in the hat were Louisa Hill and Mark Anderson).  Last years Marathon "place" winner Matt Townson pulled the name from the hat.  Well done Barrie and good luck to all those who are training to take part next year.

The Santa Run was a great success, raising £150 for Christies!  The "Santa's" ran from The gym to the Bridge Inn, King's Ransom, JP Joule, Little B and the Brook.

Amsterdam Marathon and Half Marathon (19th October 2008)

There were a lot of personal bests and first time marathon results. More information on the Club Holidays pages...

Congleton Half Marathon (5th October 2008)

Well done to all the Dragons who braved the very wet start to the Congleton half.  It was worth it for some great times and sunshine at the finish. For full results click here.  Photos.

Trafford 10K (7th September 2008)

The Dragons had a good turn out at the Trafford 10K, well done everyone, especially those who ran to/from the race as part of their marathon training!

Club Annual Relay Race (2nd September 2008)

The Dragons Annual Relay Race (400m approx.) replaced the normal Tuesday 5k. We picked the five teams randomly on the night and had two races.
Trying to sprint the 400m seemed a lot harder that the normal 5k !

Congratulations to the winning team: Matt Townson, Paul Watson, Jo Healy and John Wolstenholme.   Relay2008.xls.

Bowdon 5K (05-06-2008)

After the rainstorm had cleared the muggy air, there were some great performances from the Dragons at the Bowdon 5K race, with 4 PB's!
The course is described as fast and flat, although a few of us seemed to feel that it was mostly downhill, which is great!
The race headquarters was The Stamford Arms pub so it seemed appropriate to have a couple of celebratory drinks afterwards.
Thanks to Barrie, Alison and Nick for cheering us all on.

For further details of the event and results go to London 10000. All the Dragons finished in under an hour: left to right Sarah Bundock, Barrie Ainscow, Sarah Jones and Pete Bedford.

I am really pleased to be Trafford's fastest woman - it's fantastic.""
