The latest running club holiday was a great success with two marathon relay teams and five full marathon runners. The relay was great fun and runners were then able to support team mates further round the course!  More info. and photos on the club holidays page.

It's a shame we just missed the October Beer Festival !!

We'll be planning another trip next year so any suggestions on location are welcome!

Quite a large number of Dragons are took part in this triathlon, with quite a few will be first timers!! It turned out to be a great, long and sunny day with Barrie starting the swim at 08:30 and the last start at around 13:00.  Full details and results on the Triathlon page!

A handful of Dragons travelled to Wales to Race the Train again this year.  With better weather and conditions there was a little less moaning about it being too slippy!?  Rob was on-hand to take some great photo's, click here to see them.

"Race the Train takes place alongside as far as practicable the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back. In order to do this all courses use a mixture of public roads, lanes, un-metalled roads, tracks, agricultural land, and rough grazing pastures." *from the official website*

Sale Sizzlers (Thursday(s) June/July/August)
We've had a lot of runners taking part in the Reebok Manchester 5k Sale Sizzlers this year.  The picture on the left was taken after the 25th June race (Laura's last race with the club before moving to Oz - good luck).  In a more recent race Barrie finally achieved the PB he's been after for quite a long time now!!  The last race in the series is on 6th August. Form more information on entry click here.  For photographs take at various events follow this link to Rob's website.

Dragons Social (Friday 26th June)
Fifty people attended the social at Thai E Sarn (Crazy Wendy's) in West Didsbury, on Friday 26th June, it was a great success!  Pete made a surprise leaving announcement and there was a goodbye cake for Anita (away for two years to Doha) and Mandy (7.5 weeks touring Asia and Indonesia).

Thanks to everybody for attending a really great night out, a great start for the new runners who were there in force, well worth another visit.

Club Handicap Race (Sunday 14th June)
The club held the 3rd handicap race on Sunday 14th June with 13 runners.  The winner was Monica who received a bottle of wine for her success.  Thanks to Tris for organising this and everyone else involved.  The race took in a loop of Chorlton water park from Jackson's Bridge (4.6km approx). In a very similar way the the triathlon we celebrated with more cold beers at Jackson's Boat.  For more pictures click here (thanks Rob).

Position Runner Time Handicap Actual Time
 1 Monica 25:22 01:53 23:29
 2 Lisa 26:01 01:53 24:08
 3 Andrea 26:18 04:42 21:36

Dragons had three individuals and one relay team (of 3) competing in the Chorlton X Sprint Triathlon on a gloriously sunny weekend.  This consisted of 750m swim, 12.5km bike and 5k run in and around Chorlton water park.  The picture show's us proudly clutching our medals; Nicole (3rd Female) and Tri-Paul (1st relay team).  During the presentation ceremony there were already mumblings that something was not right.  The official (provisional) results now show Nicole as 4th and Tri-Paul as second, discussions with the organisers are ongoing as they have not released any split times.

Regardless of the results, a great day was had by everyone who competed, supported and celebrated with a cold beer at Jackson's Boat afterwards!  For more pictures click here (thanks Rob).

Club Membership 2009/10
Individual club memberships are now due for 2009/10.  The annual fee costs just £10 and provides you with many great benefits, it could even SAVE you money!? See the Contacts/Membership page for more information.

I've lost count of how many Dragons were running the BUPA Manchester 10K.  At great expense we joined the other 30,000 runners on a pretty windy morning to chase Haile Gebrselassie to the finish line.  Even the Marathon record holder said he struggled against the wind on the last 5k but still finished in less than 28mins.  We all celebrated with drinks in the Slug & Lettuce in Sale in the afternoon.  You can just see Paul Watson and Paul Tindall in the image on the right from the BUPA website!  Follow the link on the title for results etc.

"Olympic champion Sammy Wanjiru smashed Martin Lel's one-year-old course record to win the 2009 Flora London Marathon in a personal best of 2:05:10 after a gripping battle with Ethiopia's Tsegaye Kebede who finished just 10 seconds behind".  Hot on the heels of the leaders were four Dragons from Sale, (this is probably why they were running so fast!?).  Barrie Ainscow, Cat Dodsworth, Jo Healy and Paul Watson all completed the last Flora London Marathon on a particularly hot day with support of other Dragons, family and friends.  Many thanks to all our supporters for cheering us on during those hard miles. The ballot for next years Virgin London Marathon is already full!!

Wilmslow Half Marathon (Sunday 29th March)

Conditions were near perfect for the Wilmslow Half Marathon with plenty of sunshine to keep us warm after the frosty start.  This year the event had been chosen to host the English Half Marathon Championships so there was a fast field and of course plenty of Dragons!   A good number of Dragons obtained PB's and some celebrated with a pint or two in Sale later on.  It must be mentioned that a certain Dragons runner also stopped in the Church Inn for a drink and chat with the local before continuing to complete in 2 hours!

Congratulations to everyone and also for those who ran the Coniston 14.
