The Course

Biotechnology is a Regional Occupational Program course designed to teach students aged 16 and older
  • biotechnology and health care industry business models, finance, structure and applications
  • mathematical and technical skills
  • basic and advanced laboratory skills
  • safe laboratory practices
  • professional workplace conduct
  • job acquisition skills.
This course will satisfy the following requirements: San Diego Unified high school science graduation requirement, UC “D”-level laboratory science, UCSD BioBridge Internship, and ROP competency certificate.  If a final articulation exam is passed, you will also receive BIOL131 (4 units) college credit from Miramar College.

This class is designed to prepare you for the workforce.   You are expected to behave like adults and be responsible for your own attendance, timeliness, and professional behavior.  However, this is still a high school classroom and I am required to enforce school rules and policies.  Like any employer, I prefer my employees to stay home when ill and return to our workplace refreshed and ready to complete tasks.  However, it is not possible for students who miss 4 or more class meetings to receive credit for this course.
My Commitment
I enjoy teaching science and working with students.  The ability to think scientifically will benefit you in many aspects of your life and I hope this course sets you on a path toward becoming a critical thinker.

I believe that each and every one of my students is capable of earning a passing grade in this course.  You are intelligent, mature, and capable people.  In light of this, I expect you to be responsible for meeting all deadlines and requesting help when needed.  I am always available at the Science Success Academy and by appointment to help with any issues you may have.  I am not a mind reader, so please speak up if there is anything I can do to help you succeed!

Science Success Academy

The Science Success Academy meets on Wednesdays from 2:30 - 4:00 P.M. in Ms. Dozier's Room (554)

The Academy is open to all science students.  This is the place to make up a missed lab or activity, get extra help, or enrich your knowledge of scientific concepts.  Snacks are often served, so stop by!
