World History Syllabus

 COURSE DESCRIPTION

                In this course we will be learning about World History.  We will start by exploring the philosophies that                     changed the world during the Enlightenment.  We will then investigate how those philosophies changed                     the world starting with the American Revolution all the way through to the present day.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

                The following is a list of materials necessary to perform well in World History:

                Text – World History:  Connections to Today

                Notebook (three ring binder)

                Paper (three hole paper*no spiral edge)

                Pen

                Positive Attitude           

GRADING POLICY

                Your letter grade will be determined by a combination of your performance on exams, quizzes, homework, classwork, journals and projects.

 

Grading Scale

90-100%- A

80-89%  - B

70-79%  - C

60-69%  - D

0-59%    - F

 

            You have to work very hard to achieve grades of D’s and F’s.  So lets put our energy towards a more positive             goal!  I will try to keep your grades current and posted approximately every two weeks.

 

GRADE COMPONENTS

Book Assignments:  Read the chapter, do the review.

Section Presentations:  You will each “teach” a section of the book to the class and you will be graded on                                content and presentation.

Videos/Movies:  We will watch videos that take a look at a person or event and explains its impact on the                                world.  You will take notes on the video or  complete a worksheet.

            Various Class and Group Projects:  Fun, fun, fun!  These will be fun and engaging to try and help you learn                             more about the world in which we live. 

             Tests/Quizzes:  Expect a test or quiz at least every other week.  These test/quizzes will measure your level                             of proficiency on the material covered.

Attendance:  Attending class ON TIME with REQUIRED MATERIALS.  This is a daily expectation.

Participation in lesson:  his includes warm-ups, participating in each daily lesson, working cooperatively with                             your group and participating in discussions.

            End Of The Year Benchmark: World History Research Paper:  This project will be research paper based                                 on major person or event in World History.  This will be a major part of your grade second                                         semester.  A more detailed explanation will come later on in the class
