Activity - snowman melt

Make three small snowmen, they need to be about the same size.

Place the snowmen in three different places, for example, in the kitchen, in the garden, in the garage (it might be wise to stand them each on a tray (Why?). Start the clock.

Which snowman melts first and why?

Try this again but this time dress the snowmen in some clothes (use bits of old material). Does this make a difference to the result?

Try this activity too - snowman melt 2

Make three small snowmen.

Put them inside their own ice cream tub or big yoghurt pot.

Place each tub on a tray.

Pack snow around the outside of one tub, wrap one tub in an old scarf (don't use Mum's new one), leave one tub without anything around it. Place the tubs in a warm room, on trays. Start the clock.

Which snowman melts first?
How many minutes is it before the next snowman has melted?
How long did it take the last snowman to melt?
Which snowman melted last?

Explain what happened? Why do you think there was a difference in the time it took each snowman to melt? (If there was a difference, why did they all melt at the same time otherwise?)

Draw some pictures of what you did and what happened.
