The editor

One of Doomed Again's most interesting features is its editor. Unlike other Doom editors, in which you have to draw linedefs and sectors, Doomed Again's editor uses a 128x128 grid of cells (each cell being a 64x64 area of the "doom map"). You just have to add enemies, items, walls, doors and prefabs wherever you want, the editor does the rest. Ever created a level for Wolfenstein 3D or Rise of the Triad ? Then you know what I'm talking about.

For instance, creating a series of doors locked until the cyberdemon is killed doesn't require scripting, special linedefs/sectors or tags anymore : it can be set up with only 3 clicks.

User interface

How does it work ?

Here are some of the editor's features :
  • Create interesting and visually intense levels in minutes, not hours!
  • Add doors, stairs, slopes, bridges, swimmable water, pilars, switches... in one single click.
  • Support for most of EDGE improvements over vanilla Doom : you can place dynamic lights, ambience sounds and the like with one click.
  • Random map generator, if you're that lazy.
  • Automatically generates CWILVxx wad lumps from level name.
  • Entirely coded in C#. Works with Windows 2000/Xp/Vista/Seven and Linux (with Mono)

Of course, you can use any other modern WAD Editor to create levels for Doomed Again.
A Doombuilder configuration file will be provided in the package.
