Lake Now Open

After conferring with Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife (KDFW) and our HOA Board, the decision was reached to re-open the lake, BUT with a restriction:
  • Do not fish where you can see an oil sheen on the water surface. Any oils coming into contact with the gill structure of the fish will smother it. Imagine inhaling the smoke off a match. Try to stay at least 20-25 feet from any oil slicked area when fishing.
  • We have placed absorbent oil pads and booms out in order to capture the oil coming out of the storm drain outlets. Please, do not move or disturb these pads because they are capturing the oils from the drain pipes.
  • DO NOT pour any oils or solvents such as gasoline, kerosene, paint or paint thinners, anti-freeze or any other volatile chemical  into the storm drain system. It is in direct violation of both federal and state law since 1948. Doing this will destroy a valuable resource that this community has right in our own backyards. In time, this could be a great fishery and food staple if needed, so please, don't destroy it by not thinking.

At Approximately 11:30 AM, the local responder from Ky. Environmental Management Service has CONFIRMED that we have a problem with a large quantity of MOTOR OIL being introduced into our lake! This investigation found the origin of the oil as being ILLEGALLY DUMPED MOTOR OIL INTO A STORM DRAIN. The origin of the oil came from the LAST storm drain before the cul-de-sac on WHITE BLOSSOM DRIVE.
This is HIGHLY ILLEGAL and, if caught, not only would the person be fined ($1000+), but they would be responsible for the EPA clean up involved. The cost involved would range in the 10's of thousands of dollars, loss of property and possible jail time.
