Aside from a suggestion to gather results for a larger set of images, there has been a few inquires
about DLI's performance relative to more advance research level codecs. In particular, whether DLI
outperforms ADCTC, thereby setting a new compression record. More information regarding ADCTC
and how it compares with other research codecs can be found at
I decided to satisfy both requests with a thorough comparison vs ADCTC using ADCTC's own image set.
For the following comparison, the entire set of images in testset1.zip was used, a good variety of image
types are represented.
PSNR Results (dB)
DLI produces the best results in 63 of the 64 test cases. In most cases, significantly (> 0.25 dB)
outperforming the previous record holder, ADCTC.
The following graphs are plots of the PSNR results presented above.
Due to requests for results in percentage form, they have been compiled into the following table.
Results for DLI -q 30 Results for DLI -q 40
At DLI -q 30, DLI compresses 3-55% more than ADCTC on each image, averaging 16% over the entire set.
At DLI -q 40, DLI compresses 1-56% more than ADCTC on each image, averaging 14% over the entire set.
