| | March 2009 Friendship Group Meeting
Thanks to Goins Family for hosting the March 2009 Friendship Group meeting at their home. And, thanks to Duke Muslim Chaplain and Faculty Abdullah Antepli for joining the group as the host speaker. Friendship group members prepared questions for Antepli. Some of the questions were:
• Are women allowed leadership roles? If so, in what way? If not, why not? • Please share excerpts of scripture where "forgiveness" is mentioned. • Any suggestions for healing religious differences? Is peace possible? • One idea is if he could discuss any efforts at dialogue with Christian or Jewish leaders in the community.
• Can you comment on the community service projects being done by Muslims, but also whether such projects are being pursued jointly anywhere by Muslims and Christians?
Antepli shared his knowledge and experiences with the group answering the questions. We had lively and interactive conservations and again did not understand how 2 hours passed so quickly. |
| | February 2009 Friendship Group Meeting
This time, Divan hosted us. Even though we had no topic in mind, we had full conversation through 2.5 hours.
Paul brought a book by Shirazi Hafiz (follower of Rumi), and each of us read a section. We then talked about babies, as our group will have a baby member soon. And, finally we listened to the "Advices from Dad to his Son who would be getting married in a week" story. The funny story was about getting to learn the Women's Language.
Thanks to Divan Women's Club who prepared Ashura (Noah's Pudding) for the February Friendship Group meeting. |
