Speech contests are an important part of the Toastmasters International educational program. Speech contests provide an opportunity for proficient speakers to gain contest experience, and they provide interesting educational programs for members and the public. They also allow those Toastmasters who are not participating in the contest to learn by observing proficient speakers.
Only Toastmasters' members can be contestants.
We conduct 2 contests every year - OraFest & Fun 'n Furore
OraFest
This conference conducted in April of every year, consists of the International Speech Contest and Table Topic Speech Contest.
Fun N Furore
This conference conducted in October of every year, consists of the Humourous Speech Contest and Evaluation Contest.
International Speech Contests
This contest gets its name because the winners of this contest can go on to participate in International-Level speech contests.
Table topics
This kind of speaking is also called Impromptu speaking or Extempore speaking. This is because participants get to know their speech topic only when they arrive on stage. They are not given any time to prepare and are only allowed 2 to 3 minutes to deliver a well rounded speech on the topic.
Humourous Speech Contest
As the name implies, in this contest participants vie to be the funniest person in the room.
Evaluation Contest
In this contest a sample speaker is evaluated, on stage, by each contestant. To select the winner(s), the judges look for ANALYSIS, RECOMMENDATION and ENCOURAGEMENT.
