New Years Day Sailing Hi Sailors,The holidays are mostly behind us - Your friends at DISC hope everyone had Happy Christmases and Hannukahs. For the more irreverent among us, Festivus is fine. And Kwanza runs until Sunday.Speaking of Sunday: We have our Hair of the Dog Race on New Years Day. Turtle, Wiz, Shadowfax and PSC's Kestrel have declared their intent to participate. Pat will be on station as RC. Gotta say it looks like a spectacular day for a winter sail. Predictions are for 55 degrees, sunny and 13 SSW. Who is planning to join the New Years Day expedition? Annual Award Ceremony Recap from our new Commodore Hear, Hear…..Cheers to Another DISC Year!!!On December 6, 2011, Daingerfield Island Sailing Club (DISC) members met at Murphy's Tavern in Alexandria to celebrate a successful 2011 sailing season. Looking back on this last year's many successes, including a growing Tuesday night fleet, successful weekend races including the Geico Cup and the Leukemia Cup as well as more casual races such as the Night Crawler series, it is great to see our club thriving. Jules Vernes Trophy: Must-see sailing action Peter Rees reminds us to check in on the current Jules Verne record attempt. Incredible stuff. Check out his brief explanation, the video, and the link where you can track the progress of Banque Populaire V. Here is the link to the map page for the current attempt by the giant French trimaran Maxi Banque Populaire V on the Jules Verne Trophy. This is a race against the clock for the fastest non-stop circumnavigation of the globe under sail. The current record is 43 days and a few hours held by Frank Cammas and Groupama 3.
