AWR160, WMD-Terrorism Awareness (live instruction)

Awareness 160: WMD/Terrorism Awareness (AWR 160)

AWR 160 is the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security's (DHS) introductory workshop on weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and terrorism.  This class is authorized by DHS and the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) and taught by DHS certified trainer(s) or available free on-line from Texas Engineer Extension Service (TEEX), the homeland security arm of Texas A&M University, DHS' contractor for this and other courses.

Students will learn:

  • What is terrorism?
  • Types of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
  • Terrorist Planning Process.
  • How to use the Emergency Response Guide (ERG).
  • RAIN (Recognize hazard, Avoid, Isolate, Notify)
  • Different kinds of WMDs - CBRINE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Incendirary, Explosive)

ERGs are suppose to be in every police car and fire rig in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.   It is essential for all emergency responders to learn how to recognize haz-mat/WMD and what the evacuation zone is; the ERG is the reference manual to accomplish this.  The budget has been cut and we are no longer able to give away free ERGs.  However you may download the ERG for free (type "ERG" into a search engine) or purchase it from the U.S. Government Printing Office, for about $8.  (Purchasing the already printed book it is cheaper than downloading the free version and using ink and paper to print it out).  You will need one of these versions of the ERG to take the course and pass the quiz.

Types of Training:

  • Live Training - We seldom teach this class live as it is available on the internet. If we do teach the class live, students need to come prepared with either the ERG downloaded to their laptops or having purchased the book from the U.S. Government Printing Office.
  • Internet - Go to http://teexwmdcampus.com Then register as a new user if not already registered. Once registered, you should select the AWR-160 course form the courses listed. This is the newest version of the course and meets the 2008 NFPA 472 standard.

Certificate and C.E.U.s  -  Graduates of the class will receive a certificate.  There are no C.E.U.s available for this class.

  • For the live class, if you wish to get a certificate from this class, DHS requires you provide your social security number.  You will also be asked for your contact information.  Bring a SASE large enough for the certificate to class.
  • For the internet class, after you pass the quiz, your certificate will be posted to your account.
