The newly-renovated Hog's Back Plaza McDonald's.
This McDonald's, in the Hog's Back Plaza strip mall at the corner of Meadowlands Drive and Prince of Wales Drive in the Rideau View area of Ottawa (the area that is west of the Rideau Canal and River but east of Fisher Avenue which is technically the eastern border of Nepean), recently got a facelift, incorporating the new flattened arch (that looks suspiciously like a frown). This McDonald's is the most out-of-the-way McDonald's I know of in the Ottawa area, not being that close to much of anything besides a couple of large apartment buildings and some low-rise government office buildings. It's located in the sort of plaza that would usually attract, at best, a Subway sandwiches shop. I suppose it's semi-handy for Carleton University students, but that's still quite a troddle away. especially in winter.

Last semester I was frustrated by the Subway sandwich shop near campus - four different people would intercept my sandwich as it went down the assembly line and re-ask me which toppings I wanted on my sandwich. Not very efficient or friendly. I mentioned this to the manager - he told me to keep my eye out for the incoming Sandwich Kiosks, where ordering is computer-based, and thereby more clear. Supposedly. The interface needs some work - you can't page though the sandwich choices with great flexibility. Which raises a version 2.0 issue - most people tend to order the same sandwich when they come here, I am guessing. So where is my Frequent Franchise Food card or biometric plug-in? Sigh - some technology is seldom enough.
