To 21st Century Learners the physical world and virtual world are blended together, each an integral part of the other. Yet, many classes remain Classroom 1.0 where wall maps and black line map dittos, a few pictures cut out of old National Geographic and a tiny illustration in the text book are the only connections to places they study. Our digital students deserve Classroom 2.0 where the physical and virtual worlds collide, where learning can take place anywhere and the rich resources of the world are open to them. Now, no matter the subject, time, place and experience can all come together through the richness of Google Earth and Google Sketch Up. Students can now soar around the earth, view the wonders of the world, and see embedded content where it actually happens. How about making learning jump off the page. Students can now create nearly any three dimensional object their mind can think of in Sketch Up and place it in Google Earth, blurring the lines between the real and virtual world. The physical world and virtual world both come alive through the integration of Google Earth and Sketch Up. Now the experience can become even more phenomenal with the use of 3D Connexion SpaceNavigators. This navigator frees students and teachers from the keyboard and mouse, allowing them to explore the world of Google Earth with a twist and turn of a knob or create unparalleled objects through Google Sketch Up.
This section will provide participants with in-depth knowledge to utilize both Google Earth in the classroom. From Ancient Rome to a Civil War battlefield, the home of Darwin to Nick Carraway's 1920s New York City, no matter the subject or grade level, oh the places your students will go now!
Google Earth Google Earth combines the power of Google Search with satellite imagery, maps, terrain and 3D buildings to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips. Fly to your house. Just type in an address, press Search, and you’ll zoom right in. Tilt and rotate the view to see 3D terrain and buildings. Save and share your searches and favorites. Since Google Earth was launched, users have been exploring our world and creating content overlays (KML files) to share their explorations with others. We're now highlighting user-created KML files each week in the new Google Earth Gallery. Google SketchUp Developed for the conceptual stages of design, Google SketchUp is a powerful yet easy-to-learn 3D software tool that combines a simple, yet robust tool-set with an intelligent drawing system that streamlines and simplifies 3D design. From simple to complex, conceptual to realistic, Google SketchUp enables you to build and modify 3D models quickly and easily. If you use Google Earth, Google SketchUp allows you to place your models using real-world coordinates and share them with the world using the Google 3D Warehouse. Next, we're going to begin creating your own trip with places in Google Earth. So continue on to the next lesson for that.
