PhotoStory3

What is PhotoStory?

Photo Story 3 is a free and easy to use program from Microsoft that enables users to create compelling slide shows from digital images. Its features enable you to create a slideshow with your digital pictures, edit your pictures, create your story with original music, add narration, and share them. Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 are required for this program.

How to Get PhotoStory

PhotoStory3 is a free download for Microsoft XP and Vista users. You will also need to make sure you have an up to date version of Windows Media Player.  If you do not have this on your school computer, you can put in a work order to have the ETAs install it for you.  In the mean time, give it a try at home.

Tips and Tricks:

  • If students will be creating the stories from photos other than their own.  Begin by creating media kit folders with either class created photos, or a collection gathered from resources such as Discovery Streaming and Flickr Creative Commons that they can choose from when creating their movies. .
  • Students work should concentrate on the story and not the searching for resources.
  • PhotoStory3 only allows you to add titles over photos.  If you would like to have a blank background for your title, go to PowerPoint, create a blank page with a colored background and save as a jpg.  Then import this into PhotoStory.  Save your blank colored jpgs in a file for reuse.
  • This can be a collaborative project where each student adds their piece of the movie.

How to share your PhotoStory

  • Be sure that you have permission to publish any images or audio that you share.
  • Also remember to site images and music.
  • You may upload videos to sites such as YouTube, TeacherTube, SchoolTube or Vimeo. If posting for students to view at school, you will either need to upload and link from our server or use a school friendly site like SchoolTube or TeacherTube.
  • Once your video is uploaded, you will be provided with an embed code that you can paste into a website or blog and a url that you can link to.
