End of export-driven growth?

posted Jun 8, 2010 9:11 AM by Dhvp Economics

Some buzzwords on the possibility of the "end of export-driven growth model" were traveling through the Vietnamese community, including policy makers and economists, and also laymen, before the WEF East Asia in Ho Chi Minh City.

Will there be such an end? The answer is: That hypothesis is totally absurd. Any further proving of that could prove further its absurdity.

Vietnam never enjoyed trade surplus, and is for the time being struggling to contain its huge trade deficit. We could wait for a modified version of apocalyptic story, but not that "end of export-driven growth".

The reality is, before one could end something, one must have seen it moving somehow.
