SMASH NY TOURNEY!!!!!!!!!

Smash Bros. Brawl NYC tournament from Andrew Yoon on Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York met in NYC for Nintendo's official Smash Bros. Melee Brawl launch tournament. Each of these finalists were going to walk home with a Wii and an insane amount of Best Buy gift monies. The victor, however, would get a brand new TV, sound system, and a customized crystal Wii. Boston's representative took home the gold with a stunning performance with Sheik (see video, above).

The Smash competitions went throughout the night, ensuring that patient Best Buy shoppers were treated to some entertainment while they waited for the game's obligatory midnight release. Many New Yorkers, after picking up their copies, rushed to the subway, undoubtedly rushing home to enjoy their spoils.

Update: Really -- seriously? Melee? Fixed.

Xbox 360 Fix

Were you playing a great game of Halo, only to have your Xbox 360 crash on you right in the middle of game play!? Wehings! If you're a hardcore gamer and you're reading this ll I've had this happen to me, and it was one of the most frustrating tarticle, most likely you are all too familiar with this.

Microsoft offers to fix your Xbox 360 if you ship it to them, but if your console is no longer under warranty, guess who'll be paying for it!? Personally, I couldn't think of a worse thing then to send my Xbox 360 away for many weeks or even months! That's valuable gaming time I'm missing, not to mention that there have been many cases where an owner gets his/her system back, only to find that the console STILL crashes! That's just not acceptable.

Luckily, there are actually a few things you can do to that may help to fix your console:

The first thing you can do is to make sure that your Xbox 360 has space to breathe. What I mean by this is to make sure that your console is far away from any heat vents or heaters that may increase the temperature of the system. Also, make sure there is nothing blocking the air intake vents on the console. The console already runs very hot to the touch, so making sure that it is well ventilated will help to cool it down, and many times can fix the problems people have with their systems crashing.

Another thing you can try is to grab a small fan or even something like a hair dryer that has a cold setting, and aim it at the vents on the side of the Xbox 360. This can not only help to cool the console, but also remove any dust that surrounds the important computer chips inside.

If neither of these things work, there are actually step-by-step, easy to follow guides all about Xbox 360 fixes.

Download Wii Games Online and Transfer To Your Wii

As we've seen over the last 2 years the Nintendo Wii has taken home entertainment systems to another level. In more recent times it has also become possible - due to the enormous popularity of the Wii - to download games to your PC, transfer to a Memory Card or DVD and play these games immediately on your Wii.

One of the barriers to the ongoing fun on the wii is definitely the price points of games. Having an online resource that allows downloading of games, ultimately allows more great games to get in the hands of even more people.

There are a number of online services appearing that will allow you to download games. As the wii is also capable of playing back Quicktime Videos, Jpeg Images and MP3 Audio tracks, many of the better services also allow you to download wii media (movies and your favorite songs) for playback.

Being able to download games is not an entirely new concept. However, many of these sites have long been shaded in the realm of trojan viruses, popup ads slow downloaders, malware and other nasty internet bugs and creatures that are best avoided at all costs.

When choosing a service to download games from, is best to ensure you do the required level of due diligence in the initial stage. As a general rule, torrent sites and sites with a large number of popups are best avoided - at all costs. The site I use is a one time subscription fee (around the price of a single wii game) for the 'all you can eat' concept. Allowing me to essentially download free wii games and media as I please.

For a long time I didn't realise we all have the tools and know how to bring these games from the PC into our living room and onto the Wii. Certainly my days of playing fifty plus dollar per game are over now that the concept of gaming on demand is here.

I am an avid Wii Fan and console gaming Fan. For further Review of Wii Download Services, check out how to download wii games.

How to Put PS1 Games on PSP

Is it really possible to play PS1 games on the PSP? Of course it is. There are tons of software that will allow you to play PS1 games on your PSP, and I am going to give the secret away! You are going to find out how to get them downloaded, and how to copy them over using your USB cable.

There are a few things that you are going to need in order to put PS1 games on the PSP. The first thing that I recommend, if you don't have already, is to buy the biggest memory stick for your PSP that you can afford. The more space you have the more games, movies, music, etc that you are going to be able to have at any given time.

You will also need all of the software that is needed. I will explain everything as I go through the steps below. The software includes a place to download the ROM's (games), and software that will copy the games to the correct directory on your memory stick.

The only other thing that you will need is the USB cable for your PSP. You will need to connect it to your computer and copy the games that you download over to your memory stick. You can get a USB cable at any store that carries games usually, but you should have the one that came with it originally.

Now that you know what is required, the only thing left is to start downloading and playing the games. Sounds simple, but there are a lot of bad download services on the net. You need to make sure that you have one that is reliable, has customer support, and a fresh large database of games.

Once you get your games downloaded, the next step is to get the games over to your PSP. So, connect your USB cable, and browse to your memory stick. This is where you will copy your games. You need to make a new folder on your memory stick called Games. This is the only place to put your games, or they will not work.

Now you can use your PSX emulation software and play any PS1 game that you download. The download service that you choose should provide all of this software for you in one place. There is no need for you to be looking around for this software on the net.

I have reviewed the Top 3 PSP Download Services for you so that you know that you are not getting duped into some scam. My number one recommended service will guide you through downgrading your PSP's firmware so that you can play any downloaded game, movie, or music. There is only a one-time fee of around $37 that will more than pay for itself after your first few downloads.

Don't get scammed again. Get the Best PSP Download Service

Download Free PS3 Games

Are you still purchasing your PS3 games from your local video games shop? If you are, then stop right now! There is a much simpler way in which you can get your hands on all of the latest games, you can download free PS3 games online. It is so much easier, cheaper and faster to download your PS3 games from the Internet, rather than taking a trip to a shop. You just need to know exactly where to download them from.

There are vast amounts of games download sites available, even for the newly released PS3 games. However it is simple to get confused. Aside from this, there are many sites that are scams which generally outweigh the legitimate services.

Always take precautions when parting with your cash. Many download sites will request payments from you; only for you to then discover that there service is outdated or illegal. There are numerous sites available for downloading free PS3 games that are simply not safe. When you locate a good site, there will be the opportunity to download an unlimited quantity of games for only a small one time fee.

The better sites that can be found will come with not only games, but also the latest music, movies and TV shows, all of which are available for instant download. You will be expected to pay a monthly subscription on certain sites. However, with some of the better services, it will be possible to have access for life, simply by paying a one time fee.

Ensure that you locate a membership site which includes step by step instructions for playing the games once they have been downloaded, plus a member support service, for if you should by chance have any questions of problems.

Always check if the site offers a money back guarantee in case you are not satisfied with the service. I hope that these simple tips assist you, if you wish to download free PS3 Games.

Ryan Edward has been a fan of Sony's video game consoles since the first Playstation was introduced to the market, but being a big gamer comes with a big price tag too. Games can get expensive, so be sure to check out how Ryan was able to save hundreds of dollars by downloading PS3 games online.

Penny Arcade Expo Launches 'The PAX 10' Independent Games Showcase

Penny Arcade invites independent developers to submit their creations.

March 4, 2008 - The creators of the online comic Penny Arcade today announced The PAX 10, a showcase of independent games to be displayed at the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) August 29-31, 2008 in cooperation with the DigiPen Institute of Technology. Beginning immediately, independent developers seeking to participate can submit their one-of-a-kind game creations for consideration at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/27819 until May 7, 2008. A panel of 50 industry experts, including Penny Arcade's own Gabe and Tycho, will select the ten best submissions in terms of gameplay and "fun factor" for inclusion in The PAX 10; those selected will be shown in the PAX Exhibit Hall, allowing attendees, media and publishers alike to view their home-grown potential. Attendees will have the chance to vote on the exhibited games, granting one of The PAX 10 the "Audience Choice Award," to be announced on www.penny-arcade.com following this year's expo.

Although The PAX 10 display booth is guaranteed, all other PAX exhibit space is filling up quickly as Sony Online, Microsoft, THQ, Blizzard, Namco, NCSoft, Foundation 9 and more than two dozen additional developers and publishers have already signed up for Exhibit Hall booths.

On a related note, attendee ticket sales have continued to grow year over year. Last year's official count was more than 37,000 attendees, making it the largest gaming festival in North America, and 2008 already looks to break that record. "We're selling tickets over twice as fast as we did in 2007, which of course is terrifying," said Penny Arcade's Robert Khoo. "At this point, attendees expect a great show. That's something we know how to do."

About Penny Arcade Expo

Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is a three-day celebration of games and gamer culture. The festival includes an exhibition floor filled with playable builds of upcoming tabletop, console, and computer games; a conference program of game industry speakers; music concerts; freeplay areas; industry parties; an independent games showcase, an independent games showcase; game tournaments and more. Since its inception in 2004 the show has doubled in size year-over-year, growing from 4,500 attendees to 37,000 in 2007, making it the largest gaming festival in North America. Sony PS3 To Be Must-Have Holiday Gift Thanks to Blu-ray

According to a recent survey by Entertainment Media Research, the Sony PS3 is expected to be the must-have holiday gift this coming shopping season, thanks to the games line-up, as well as the emergence of the high-definition Blu-ray format.Boston (dbTechno) - According to a recent survey by Entertainment Media Research, the Sony PS3 is expected to be the must-have holiday gift this coming shopping season, thanks to the games line-up, as well as the emergence of the high-definition Blu-ray format.

Now that HD-DVD is done and gone, with Blu-ray being the definitive medium for high-definition content, the market for Blu-ray sales is likely to expand vastly over the course of 2008.

The 2008 Digital Entertainment Survey which was conducted has found that many consumers are ready to embrace more high-definition content before the end of the year.

This is great news for the Sony PS3, which has a built-in Blu-ray player.

The PS3, according to the survey, will likely be the must-have item this holiday season.

The survey questioned 1,600 British consumers, and found that 24% stated that they would view a high-definition movie in the next 6 months.

60% of those who responded stated they were waiting to see whether Blu-ray or HD DVD would win the format war.

With the war over, it is expected that Blu-ray movie sales, as well as PS3 sales, will increase.

Phil Harrison Appointed President of Infogrames

Seems like it was true. Phil Harrison has today been announced i n New York City that he is the new president of Atari's parent company, Infogrames. He resigned from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe last week, and now works for Atari. Congrats Phil!

3/2/08

Phil Harrison Resigns from Sony

Rumor has it Harrison's next stop may be Atari.
Sony announced today that Phil Harrison will be stepping down from his position as president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, effective February 29. No reasons for Harrison's departure were given, although GamesIndustry.biz reports via unnamed sources that he may be joining Infogrames, where he would spearhead Atari's push into the casual games market.

Harrison would join current Infogrames CEO David Gardner, who has previously expressed his desire to rebuild the floundering Atari brand name (which Infogrames owns a majority share in). "My goal is to help rebuild that passion around the company. First, with the employees and then very quickly to spread it virally on the internet to millions of new customers," Gardner said. "I have a personal challenge to create a world-class company that is European in flavor but reaches global markets. This will take some time of course, but here we have fantastic gaming DNA formed at the birth of the industry, access to creative talent and a company with the working capital to make the necessary investments to realize this vision."

While not necessarily related, it's worth noting that GamesIndustry.bizalso reported from GDC last week that Harrison was publicly critical of Sony Japan for being too slow to embrace casual and social gaming, conceding that Nintendo has taken advantage of that market. "It's a very interesting and frustrating thing for me to experience because I have been banging the drum about social gaming for a long time, with SingStar, EyeToy and Buzz," Harrison said. "And our Japanese colleagues said that there is no such thing as social gaming in Japan -- people do not play games on the same sofa together in each other's homes. It will never happen. And then out comes the Wii."

Whatever the reasons are for Harrison's departure from Sony, it does end a 15-year history with the company, where he was instrumental in launching all three generations of the PlayStation hardware as well as the PSP. Replacing him will be SCEI president and Group CEO Kazuo Hirai, who will assume Harrison's responsibilities along with those of his current position. It's currently unclear whether this setup will be permanent, or if Hirai will be an interim substitute while Sony searches for a new replacement.

Harrison may have had a few critical things to say about Sony at GDC, but he was nothing but pleasant in a public statement regarding his resignation. "The past 15 years at Sony Computer Entertainment has been the defining journey of my life so far," Harrison said. "I am grateful to all the PlayStation family for their incredible support, guidance and friendship. It has been a privilege to serve as part of the team and be inspired by them on a daily basis. I am so proud of everything PlayStation has achieved and will continue to support its future in every way I can."

The Nature of Love by Triforce

When the pendulum swings in favor of one it will eventually swing in favor of its opposite. In this world there is great hate and because of that there must be an equal amount of love to keep the balance true. For gamers, with all that is going on love must be shown in some way. A couple of years ago, Empress Valkyrie Wyldflower hosted the first "Gamers Valentine" event, for the gamer culture.

I've always supported her for that and more. It was because of that event the Empire met so many female gamers who had much to express and contribute to the gamer culture. Today we keep the tradition alive. We spent time with the kids in need at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore. It was the first time that we decided to do something different for Valentine's Day.

During Valentine's day a lot of kids only get the natural love of their parents but rarely do there friends take the time to come and visit them as they are spending time with their love ones or family who are well. But what about the ill? This is not to make anyone in particular feel bad. It is a story about a few kids that got a chance to experience unconditional love from strangers.

For all the sins that human kind is responsible for, there is just as much goodness to equal it. For more details on this story you can read it all here: http://www.empirearcadia.com/community/com-128.htm

Chronicles of Arcadia: Post Magfest 6 by Triforce 1/2008

It has been a couple of days since Music and Games 6. Sighs...what a dramatic event. Drama, Sex, Games and people getting messed up for 3 or 4 nights. Sounds like a party to most. Be that as it may, I'm not the drinking type nor the smoker but that does not stop me from having a good time. To be honest with you, I actually like being around people who are a bit smashed. At least then I don't seem so eccentric. Its as if they've all let their inner ambitions loose and actually enjoy themselves. In the end its about having a good time in a safe environment and you can find that at Magfest year in and year out.

There's a lot to talk about this year for magfest but I'll keep it at a personal level so that I can leave all the professional stuff for the Empire's official site. Hmmm...let's see, what to talk about first. Let's see...who was there, Games, drama, bands, who got smashed, and who was scheming. Might as well work with the order.

The Empress and Legaia

This years Magfest was surprising as a few non traditional gamers that I know outside of Magfest was in attendance. Gamers from the Shoryuken community like DSP (Dark Side Phil) attended the event. From what I saw he was very quite and I did not know much about what he thinks of the festival. Prodigy X from PMS male division H20 was there recording for some reality show that he has coming up. I wonder how it will compare to ours? In any event he recording some of the events at the festival one that includes me in a charity event. I'll explain that later. Also on hand was JC Media which returned a year later from their first Magfest which was M5. They brought with them Sin2die. One Shot Kill and Jackel also came. It was a different feeling to see them there. Bunny Blaze and Queen was there but there wasn't much for me to say other than hi. I was preoccupied for the entire festival though.

The game room this year was actually the biggest I've ever seen. It was even bigger than Evo last year. This year tournaments were not the focus. It was more about just casual gaming. They had Rock Band, Guitar Hero and more musical games than usual. It truly matched the meeting of Music and Games. They had this section called Gaming Challenges where you were given some real serious challenges to complete in some old NES games. I started on 2 of the challenges but because of the charity event that I had to do at a later date I had to sacrifice the challenges. Some of the games had some good challenges though.

The Empire doing what it does best

Don't get me wrong though, they did hold a few tournaments. They had a Gears of War, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Dragon Ball Z Ten 3 tournament. That was all that they had on the new games. For the old games they had Tecmo Bowl, Mario Kart 64, which randomly Jeron and I tied for 1st. We decided to leave it at that just to be nice to each other. Heh. There was also a Street Fighter 3 and Guilty Gear tournament. On the puzzle front there was no Puzzle league this year but Steve (Kylain) and Justin tied for 1st . in puzzle fighter. The competition this year was so so but like I said earlier it was more about casual gaming and all the other random pleasures of Magfest that made this year music and games great.

My first Gears tournament and I got 3rd place.

Hmmm now on the drama front. Man...the things that goes on after dark should be caught on camera. It was so crazy this year that I don't have non moral ability to speak about it. This is something that you guys are just going to have to fish out for yourselves. Trust me guys...I would tell you but I would like to consider the victim of the drama to be a friend so I just can't do that to him. There is something that I can talk about though. Some of the gamers that won some of the tournaments at Magfest got to see what networking was all about. The industry sent a Microsoft Rep at Magfest. I suspect that it was for recon purpose to be honest with you. It was truly sad to see how some of the gamers reacted.

The industry is looking for new talent and they know just how desperate some of these gamers are to be supported and recognized. Fortunately some of them are learning this through experience and they are seeing for themselves just what I've been telling them all along. Is it enough....I doubt it, but I've been wrong before. Let's hope for there sake I am again but I doubt it.

Still at it

Slutty behavior was once again present at Magfest. Some people should really reserve there slutty activity to a more constructive and prosperous function. If you are going to give it up ladies...then give it up for a purpose. Not just because your smashed. Sighs. Heh...at least one female made the best of her situation. Hmm...when I look back at what I wrote I wonder if I'm being a bit too vulgar? Hmmm...yeah I am. I apologize.... I must have given some of you the inclination I that gave a damn.

As for the bands that were there, Armcannon and Smash Bros. was on hand and others like Powerglove and Temp. sound solutions. The code of conduct was held at its best as hygiene was at a all time best and geeky dressing was at a all time low. From what I can say about the festival more and more each year gamers are more interested in having a good time outside of gaming. Not that its a problem, but the event is suppose to promote the culture of gaming, especially with music in gaming. The content provided at Magfest maybe becoming stale. Fortunately that ideology has been dismissed this year. Some of the panels and the addition of the "Market Place" has given gamers more options this year to remain focused on the culture of gaming.

The Concerts Rock as usual

The Empire also added to the event as we held a last minute fund raiser for sick kids. We decided to have a gaming marathon. I play and completed 25 games in 24 hours without continuing and on the hard difficulty wherever you can changed the difficulty option. I was banned from playing on easy which makes sense because anything under normal difficulty would take away the quality of the marathon. A couple of the requested games were almost more than I bargained for. One spectator requested super ghouls and ghost. Although I completed the game, don't think for a second that it was one of the hardest accomplishments that I have done in gaming.

Ultimately with very few advertisement and promotion we were able to raise several hundred dollars and we're going to donate it to Child's play. There was an auction that we had which raised 300 plus dollars on two items. 1 was a piece of torn paper which went for $160, and I'm NOT LYING! The other was my first Game Boy Advance SP with a copy of a completed Zelda 2 file without continuing (000). I autographed it and sold it for a total of $170 and that was the entire auction chipping in. I was able to complete the challenge of the marathon with some time to spare. Events like this adds to the depth of Magfest and makes this year festival one of the top 3 Magfest's of all time.

I still think however Magest needs to be a week long. Hmmm...perhaps M7 should use the theme of 7 days (1 week) to b promote M7. I'll put all the official details of the event in the article on the site. For now this is about all that I could remember and covered. Other than that we've won several more trophies as we returned to the ARC to add it to the collection of the Emperial Shrine. There will be plenty more throughout this year.

"All who oppose the Empire will be virtually destroyed!"
