Pennies for Patients
February 6th-24th Student Council will be collecting pennies for “Pennies for Patients”. The money collected will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School and Youth Program, Pennies for Patients. During the three week period, students collect spare change to support LLS’s mission; to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. A collection box will be given to each family to collect the spare change on Monday, February 6th. Our goal is $800, so lift those couch cushions and empty those coins from your pockets!


2012 Gold Star Teacher Awards
Think your teacher shines?  Make them feel like a star by nominating them for the Gold Star Award for Outstanding Teaching!  You might nominate your current classroom teacher, special class teacher, or any teacher that you had in previous years.  Students, parents, or anyone in the community can nominate a deserving teacher.  Nominations end on March 1, so clean out your backpack and fill out a Gold Star brochure today!  Nominations can also be submitted online at www.GoldStarTeacher.com!

When there is a two-hour delay due to weather conditions, classes begin at 10:20 a.m. No breakfast is served when there is a delay.


Iowa Assessments
The Iowa Assessments (formerly known as the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills) will be taken by students in grades 2-8 Monday through Friday, January 30th-February 10.

Parent Note Sent Home on 1-26
Our most recent monthly parent note was sent home with the oldest child in each family on Thursday, January 26. This note contains important information about upcoming events. Students also recently brought home a copy of the lunch and breakfast menus for February. Have you seen these notes? Memory Books Now on Sale
Pre-orders are now being taken for the 2011-2012 D-G Elementary Memory Books. Each memory book is $9.00. Please send money with your student if you would like to purchase a memory book.

Winter Weather Gear
It is important for all students to have appropriately warm clothing for outdoor recess. All students should have winter coats, snow boots and snow pants at school each day (even when there's no snow) so they can enjoy outdoor recess. Please make sure to mark each of these clearly with your child’s name.

Click the "Weather" link on the left of this page to read about our policy on indoor vs. outdoor recess and check the current "feels like" temperature, which is the guideline used to make this decision.
