I completed my Ph.D. in political science at the University of California San Diego in June 2007 and am currently a lecturer at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). My primary research interest is in comparative politics, with a focus on European politics, comparative legislative studies, and political parties and party systems. My secondary research field is international relations, with a focus on international security. Throughout the course of the last three years I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of courses at various institutions. My research agenda focuses on the role of the second chamber in parliamentary systems. Research topics include: investigating the circumstances under which second chambers defeat government legislation, whether or not second chamber defeats shift final policy outcomes, the role of legislative expertise within second chambers, and the effects of the Europeanization process on second chambers within the European Union.
