Okay, why "dewigett"?

  • Well, back in my college days at my fraternity, a coupla brothers were phonetically sounding out the spelling of each brother's name.  Mine came out as "deh-wigg-ett".  It rhymes with "Get it, dewigett!".  A few rules about the nickname.  dewigett is always spelled with lower case letters - even at the beginning of a sentence, dewigett is always clean shaven, and dewigett is never referenced in the third person by your Aunt Margaret (she smells funny).

History about dewigett:

  • dewigett was born in Marietta but grew up in Flintstone, Georgia (yes, there's one in Maryland, too).  Flintstone is just under Chattanooga, TN in the Chattanooga Valley.  Oh and in case you didn't know, Bam-Bam and Pebbles are now married with 5 kids living on welfare in the local trailer park.  Yeah, I've heard all the jokes....
  • dewigett graduated from Ridgeland HS in 1991 and from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1995.  (Yep, that's me in 1991.  Yikes!  But that is one hell of a mullet!)  My 20 year HS reunion will be here in another 5 years.  Think I should grow the 'stache and mullet back?  I see kids with afros running around Target these days....
  • dewigett worked for Turner Construction from 1995 to 2003and Winter Construction from 2003 to 2005.  He's built an office tower, courthouse, jail, hotel, football stadium, baseball stadium, townhomes, military academy, condominiums...
  • dewigett is currently with Oxford Properties as a Project Manager.  Oxford Properties is a developer/builder within the Corporate Holdings group started by John Williams of Post Properties fames.  (dewigett would like to add that Oxford Properties rocks!)

  • dewigett is married to the most beautiful, talented, and wonderful woman in the entire world.  She is affectionately referred to as "Sweets".  Sweets calls her man "Bear".  (It's so cute that it's revolting.  I mean, what 30+ year old man let's himself be called "Bear"?  But that's just the way it is!)

  • dewigett met his wife swing dancing.  We are avid lindy hop enthusiasts.  What's lindy hop?  Go to Wikipedia for more info.  This photo is at the Fernbank Museum at their Martinis & Imax night.  We will be teaching an Intro to Lindy class at the Kennesaw Community Center starting in Sept '06.

  • dewigett lives in the Atlanta area in a fine and dandy house - not extravagant, just perfect.  Hopefully, we'll have it paid off in several years.  The key to early retirement is paying off your debts!  It also helps if you don't lease cars, buy major appliances on credit, gamble, or get divorced.  Don't believe me?  Just ask Clark Howard!
  • dewigett doesn't like golf much although he was there this year when Phil Mickelson won The 2006 Masters.  Instead, dewigett loves fishing.  It's best when you can shoot 'em as they swim by.  For those of you who cringe at the sight of fish being slaughtered, please note that the fish I'm holding up is Dolphin.  Not Flipper, but Mahi-Mahi as you see it on the menu in restaurants.  In the Pacific, it's called Dorado.  Mahi-Mahi has  a growth rate of 24" per year and only have a life span of 5 years.  They're an almost inexhaustable supply of fish.  So the next time you're at the Atlanta Fish Market, opt for the Mahi-Mahi rather than the Chilean Sea Bass which take 8-10 years to sexually mature.  You won't be seeing Chilean Sea Bass in restaurants within the next 10 years.  They're being overfished.  Heck, they're serving Tilapia in fine restaurants now.  Years ago, Tilapia was considered a poor man's fish much like a bream or bluegill.  We've got to become better stewards of God's resources.  Okay, okay, I'll get off the soapbox now....
  • dewigett's folk are from the Philippines - Negros Occidental to be exact.  His father is a retired mechanical engineer who immigrated (legally) to Washington State working for Boeing.  His mother is an RN who immigrated (also legally) to Canada and after years of living with her greencard in the States, finally saw the light and was sworn in as a US citizen earlier this year.  This photo is the sun setting in the Pacific Ocean.  Could be touching down on my folks' island....it would be really hot there...
  • dewigett's little bro is a stud.  He was valedictorian in HS, STAR student, captain of the wrestling team, and graduated from Ga Tech as a EE.  (We both are Pi Kapps.)  He's happily married as well (Casey & Bernadette).  Dette will have her Masters in Occupational Therapy from Brenau University in Gainesville, GA within a couple of years.  They live in Norcross with all that "Gwinnett is Great" crap.  (Go Cobb County!)
  • dewigett's folks (Quezon & Rebecca) still live near Fred and Wilma.  They're both retired now.  Papa may be 70+ years, but he continues to till his garden (with a front tine tiller, no less).  He can still kick your ass (and mine too on occasion)!  Now that Mama is older, she's a lot more laid back.  (Thank God!)  I think that I get my temper from her side of the family.  So there's hope for me yet!
  • dewigett's mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law (Sandie & Steve) live in Holly Springs.  Sandie is also an artist and is currently making natural soaps.  Steve does UNIX stuff.  Between Stiv (as we call him) and my little bro, I am never short on computer resources.

  • dewigett's father-in-law and stepmother-in-law (Kent & Dana) live in St. Pete.  Kent is a radiation therapy physicist (Kristy calls him "Dr. Daddy") and is in charge of the gamma knife there in Tampa.  (I've been trying to get him to zap me with a few gamma rays, but he won't do it.  I guess I'll just have to get juiced like Barry Bonds.)  Dana is also in the medical field.  That's how they met when Kent and Dana were working at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA.  That city is also known as Disgusta unless you're playing the back nine at The Masters.
  • dewigett's stepsister-in-law (Christina) is studying psychology right now in St. Pete.  She'll transfer to USF-Tampa to finish up her degree.  Then she'll be able to psycho-analyze me, read my thoughts, control my mind... I'd better wear my aluminum foil helmet like Joaquin did in the movie Signs.  What is that Christina's holding in the photo?  In Japan, the take-out sushi plates come with soy sauce packets which aren't in your typical condiment packs.  They're served in fish shaped squeeze bottles!  Like those wax bottles with the juice that we'd buy from the 7-11 or Golden Gallon when we were kids.
  • dewigett's brother-in-law (Jeremy or Grem as Kristy calls him) is in Osaka, Japan teaching English.  Everybody seems to be kung-fu fighting over there...  One of the most famous Japanese martial arts forms involves removing a man's brain through his nose.
  • The best thing about dewigett?  Hmmm...knowing that he's going to heaven.  My Bible study groups on Friday and Saturday mornings are the best!
