THE VILLAGE OF DENTON – AN INSIGHT INTO THE PAST

It is all too easy to assume that recent history is so well documented that personal recollections of present and immediate past generations are of no consequence. However, whilst much general information exists on the social history of England over the past 200 years or so in particular, it is much more difficult to find catalogued the events, personalities and life styles of any one small area or settlement.

It seems that the rapid development of modern methods of communication has coincided with a regrettable lessening of the traditional passing of information down from one generation to the next by word of mouth.

The purpose of this website is to record some of the information and stories relating to the village of Denton and its inhabitants to avoid colourful insights into the past being lost forever with the passing of the generations.

When researching from different sources there is sometimes some conflict of information between one and another. This is especially so in the case of personal stories where different recollections of events many years ago are not that unusual. Even theoretically sound sources of information such as official records and newspaper articles have been known to contradict each other. No attempt has been made to alter or censor the information that has been included on the website.
