How To Configure Utorrent and Create A Torrent

First download and install Utorrent

These tutorials will show you how to:

Configure Utorrent
 Forward Ports

Create a torrent

Use the description area on Demonoid to describe your torrent
Upload your torrent to Demonoid

Seed your torrent

Let me start off with this and get it out of the way.
***YOU WILL NOT BE BANNED FROM DEMONOID NO MATTER WHAT CLIENT YOU USE OR HOW YOU CONFIGURE IT***

In the following screenshots,  I will show you how you should set up and configure Utorrent.
The options shown are those that are REQUIRED for most every single other private torrent site.
Keep in mind that Demonoid is NOT A PRIVATE TORRENT SITE.
Demonoid is a PUBLIC SITE  and the options I will show you are NOT REQUIRED FOR USE ON DEMONOID.
To use Utorrent " as is "  after installing it for Demonoid, you may skip most of the configuration settings below.
I would recommend that you forward your ports if you use a router before trying to upload and seed torrents.
Once your sure your ports are forwarded and you do not plan on using any private sites,
go to the  CREATE A TORRENT page.
I will warn you though, if you do not set up Utorrent as I have described below, do not attempt to use it
on private trackers.
THEY WILL BAN YOU if your using Utorrent ( or any other client ) with DHT and Peer Exchange enabled.
( most if not all anyway )
Configuring Utorrent as I have described keeps your utorrent configuration safe for use on all other sites as well as Demonoid.

This way there is no harm , no foul and you can always enable the DHT anytime you need it with a click.
So choose your poison and lets get to it.

Ready? Lets Go.

You have installed Utorrent.  Now what? You are new to torrents and have not a clue as you
sit and look at the application. No worries, there are only a few important things to do
before your downloading a file or uploading one to share. First we are going to get Utorrent
ready to use  by configuring it. It is easy, and will only take but a few minutes. Just follow the screenshots below.

CONFIGURING UTORRENT

1. Open Utorrent. Go to OPTIONS > PREFERENCES

2. Click on the GENERAL tab.

You can choose any or all of the options you want here.  These are all a matter of personal preference and are not relevant to any tracker.

It is wise however to associate Utorrent with torrent files and check associations on startup so make sure you have those checked.
Here is a screenshot of my General Preferences:

3. Click on the DOWNLOADS tab.

Here you have a few choices to decide upon.
Again, these choices are personal.
In the Location of Downloaded Files area, choose where you want your finished download
to be placed. Use the drop down boxes to browse to the folder of your choice.
Its a good idea to tick Always show dialog on manual add as well. but it is up to you.
I always uncheck Move Completed Downloads To:, I find it to be a pain, again, it is your choice.
In the When Adding Torrents area make sure you check:
Activate The Program Window and also
Show A Window That Displays The Files Inside The Torrent
I do not care for the Append !ut to incomplete files, so mine is unchecked, but if your new its a good idea
to keep it checked so you know which torrents are completed.
When they are completed the !ut suffix will no longer show and you know its a finished torrent.

4. Click on the CONNECTION tab.
The next few options are important and they will in all likelihood be different than
mine. If you do not use a router, just use the default port that Utorrent assigns
you in the Listening Port area.  If you use a router, be sure to enter the port number
you have forwarded in your router for Utorrent here.  I have assigned port 50072 for Utorrent
in my router so I entered 50072 for the port in Utorrent. These numbers must be the same if you use a router.
Have look at Forwarding Ports in your router if you need assistance. Otherwise, lets go on
to the Add Utorrent to Windows Firewall area. If you use Windows Firewall, put a check in the box.
If you do not, now would be the time to add Utorrent to whatever firewall you use and permit it.
If you do not use a firewall, continue on.

Uncheck these boxes:
***Randomize port each time uTorrent starts
***Enable UPnP port mapping
***Enable NAT-PMP port mapping

In Global Bandwith Limiting, ( the area of the screen I have blocked in red )
you will have to use the Speed Guide in Utorrent to set the speeds that match your connection.
Do not use mine ( what you see in the screen shot )
I will show you how in the next step. ( STEP 5 ) For now just close your preferences and remember to save them first.

5. Using the Speed Guide in Utorrent

A)In the Utorrent application window go to OPTIONS>SPEED GUIDE

B)
Run a "Speed Test" and write down your upload connection speed.

C)
Select your the connection speed determined above in the drop down menu as shown.

D) Choose TEST IF PORT IS FORWARDED PROPERLY

You will be directed to a web page which will tell you if you have forwarded the utorrent ports properly or not.

If you see the message above all is well.

( don't worry, that is not my real IP address shown !!! )

E)  Last but not least, it asks if you if you want to "Enable Encryption."
The reason for this is that many ISP's block or throttle BitTorrent speeds and this setting helps prevent that.
I always enable it, but it is entirely up to you.
( For private trackers, you may need this enabled in order to become connectable )

If all is well, lets go back into Utorrent preferences and finish configuring it for ALL TRACKERS. ( STEP 6 )

6. In Utorrent go on back to Preferences and click on the BitTorrent tab.

The area at the top I have blocked in red will be the settings you just created
using the Speed Guide. Leave them as they are in your Utorrent.
These are my settings you see in the screenshot, yours will probably be different.

Put a check in the box next to Use additional slots if upload speed <90%

REMOVE all check marks in the boxes in the area named Additional BitTorrent Features
except next to Ask tracker for scrape information.

Under the area named PROTOCOL ENCRYPTION be sure it says ENABLED
and put a check in the box next to Allow incoming legacy connections. Go on to Step 7

7. Go to the Queueing tab now.

In the Queueing Settings area blocked in red, your settings will be determined again by the SPEED GUIDE.
You can change them to anything you want, however I would leave them as they are in your Utorrent window.

In the SEED WHILE area blocked in purple, change the default value to -1

In the When UTorrent Reaches The Seeding Goal area blocked in yellow, you can do whatever you choose there.
It is up to you.  Go on to Step 8

8.
Go to the OTHER tab.

You can set these to anything you want as well.
I prefer mine as you see it in the screenshot above.
It is entirely up to you.  It is time for Step 9 and we are almost finished.

9. Go to the ADVANCED TAB.

Follow the settings below:
( These are the advanced settings for NO
  TCPIP.SYS PATCH )
I will be adding a tutorial for the TCPIP.SYS Patch at a later date.
Just make all the values EXACTLY as I have them in the following screenshots.

Be sure to click APPLY and OK when your finished.
Exit Utorrent and restart it to apply all the settings correctly.

You have now configured Utorrent for use with all trackers both PUBLIC and PRIVATE.
Your risk of being banned from any private tracker you might belong to
due to the use of DHT is now eliminated and Utorrent will still work fine on Demonoid.
These settings will also allow you to be " connectable " on other private trackers as well.

Ready to create that first torrent for Upload now?
You can learn how to that here.
