Well, after months of waiting, and of course, raising money for a local cancer charity, I finally got to do it. This is a picture of the fire being lit. We stood and watched it, kinda symbolic that this was really real. The flames flickered at around 3ft high before dying down, by which time we had gone back inside for the safety talk before emerging outside in the freezing cold night air with frost on the ground. The picture above is not what we walked on, we walked on the hot embers left after it had burned. The embers we walked across were 1100 degrees... I can't begin to put into words how awesome it was.... it was amazing... I had absolutely no doubt, or fear or hesitation, which os so unlike me. When it came to my turn, I got straight up and did it. I can honestly say that I didn't even think about the fact that the fire was real and if I did it wrong it could seriously hurt me. I bet you are all wondering, did I burn my feet? hell no, they don't have a mark on them except for the scars I already had from my previous skin cancer operations. I am so proud of myself, and I know now that I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to. Thank you to each and every one of you who believed in me and sponsered me.

An evidence analyst can compare fibres against other fibres recovered - such as from a suspect's clothes. If hair is recovered, analysts can determine the person's race, what part of the body the hair came from, whether it fell out or was pulled and whether it was dyed using a combination of optical and scanning electron microscopy, techniques which students will learn more about in the final year of the course.
