Fly from DVR via KONAN to KOK VOR. Don't forget to check in at the different Information and Tower frequency's. - FIS LONDON INFORMATION 124,60 MHZ.
- KOKSIJDE APP 122.50 MHZ. (EB-R24A/B) - KOKSIJDE TWR 122.10 MHz.
- OOSTENDE APP 120.60 Mhz. and 127.32 MHz.
- OOSTENDE TWR 118.17MHz. and 127.32 MHz.
- FIS BRUSSELS INF 126.90 MHz. Normally you may expect crossing clearances for CTR's and TMA's. After your Channel Crossing just follow the coastline to the North.
If you plan to enter Oostende airspace then be sure to contact them in time and well before entering. Fly over the West part of the Islands of the Dutch County of Zeeland. There you check in with Amsterdam Information at 124,30 MHz. Enjoy the view over the Dutch Islands and waterworks which keeps the sea outside the land! The Airport of Middenzeeland (EHMZ) is a good enroute alternate. (They also have MOGAS available)
Before crossing the River Maas (west of Rotterdam) decent to an altitude of 1200 feet or below and switch your Transponder to STBY. If you follow the Dutch coastline you'll stay well clear of the Amsterdam Schiphol CTR.
Following the Dutch Coastline to Texel, stay below 1200 feet to stay well clear of the Schiphol TMA1 (EHAM). It's advised to contact Amsterdam Information at 124,30 Mhz and switch your XPDR to standby.
It is very easy to follow the coastline but eventionally you'll have to cross the CTR of De Kooy (EHKD). Ask for crossing a clearance at 120,125Mhz (pronounce: The Koy tower ).
During weekends and Holidays EHKD ATC is closed between 09:00 z and 12:00 z. In this case stay clear of the airport because the local flying club may be active. During this period it's advised to stay in contact with Amsterdam Information 124,30 MHz or contact Dutch Mil 132,35 MHz.
Expect crossing via coastline if R-8 not active or route via visual reporting points "Z"-"R"-"overhead airfield"-"N". In weekends R-8 is most of the time closed. At "N" contact Texel Airport Information at 119,30 MHz. Click HERE for visual approach chart of the EHKD area
If don't get a crossing clearance then fly around the EHKD CTR to the east, follow hightway A7 to Den Oever (see map EHKD CTR) and follow the VFR CORRIDOR to Texel ! Before pasing Den Oever contact Texel Airport Information at 119,30 MHz. If you don't have a mode S XPDR, just keep it on standby after pasing the northern boundary of the Schiphol TMA1
Keep an open eye for Gliders and Microlights in the vicinity of Middenmeer.
Suggestion for a local flight during your stay at Texel
Fly over the Waddenzee to Ameland (EHAL) or the German "Wadden"-Islands Borkum (EDWR), Juist (EDWJ) or Norderney (EDWY). Ask crossing clearance for the R-4A at Cornfield (122,10 Mhz) and if closed in weekends at Dutch Mil (132,35 MHZ).
You will see that VFR flying in The Netherlands is not as difficult as sometimes suggested. Just don't fly into the Amsterdam TMA or CTR and you'll be fine. The coastline makes that easy ! |
