| Welcome to 8th Grade English Language Arts! My name is Debbie Harris and this is my 24th year to teach English. I have taught ELA in 4th grade, 6th grade, and now 8th grade. Eighth graders are great, and I love teaching literature because reading is one of my favorite things to do! The state has mandated that eighth graders must pass the Reading Taks test on March 3rd in order to be promoted to 9th grade. Most ELA grades are taken in class, and there are usually three grades taken a week as follows: 1. Taks Practice grade 2. Open book test over weekly literature selection 3. Spelling/voc. test - Friday One AR grade is given per six weeks, and it counts as two class work grades. |
