The
sculpture Deafblind
Shape is
the outcome of the relationship between GUIDO
DETTONI
and the association APSOCECAT
in
Barcelona,
a group of deafblind people, their families and the professionals who
help them.
Their
collaboration began with the proposal to create a shape aimed to be
“tactile symbol” of deafblindness. To achieve this, Guido Dettoni
requested to share moments and actions with deafblind people and
their interveners in order to be able to feel and comprehend how they
would “live” the matter through hands. Thus, an experience took
place for them to shape it without any aware
intention. Moreover, shaping jointly did show up being a possible
other way for both of them to communicate emotions and sentiments.
This
experience
was for Guido Dettoni the source of inspiration to create the
Deafblind Shape and at the same time it has been the first experimental workshop of the Handsmatter Deafblindness program.
A
sculpture conceived
to be touched and held in hands.
The close link between hands and mind is important to this artist and
this acquires a special meaning in this artwork, dedicated to
deafblindness.
Intuition
and sensory perception allow an increased sensitivity and
understanding towards this disability.
It is not only its symbol but an intervener between the world and the
deafblindness condition.
A
PROJECT OF SOLIDARITY
October
2009, through
APSOCECAT (Catalan Association for Deafblind People), Guido Dettoni
donated his creative work to all deafblind people so that the
benefits from the commercialisation of Deafblind Shape replicas could
be an additional resource for those specific associations and
entities distributing them worldwide
