Please Start Here

Hello and welcome to the first ever Dorchester District Two Virtual Spring Break!

On behalf of the Instructional Technology Department, we are so happy to have you along for our journey!

Before we start, we would like to introduce you to the Virtual Spring Break website and review some procedures.

1)       Each day of Spring Break starting tomorrow -Saturday, April 4th - a Spring Break destination will be posted on the Virtual Spring Break Website.  You may find a link to this site at the end of this letter.

2)      Once you have accessed the page, click on the appropriate day.

3)       Once you have clicked on the appropriate day, a new destination will appear.  Each new destination will look similar to this.

If you would like to hear the daily clue about where we are traveling, you may click on the “please click here link”.  All audio clues are available in the MP3 format; you may listen to them with Windows Media Player.

4)      If you would like to follow the trip using Google Earth, KMZ files are available for each destination.  For more instructions on using Google Earth, please access the Google Earth help page located in the navigation bar on the left side of the page.  Instructions for downloading Google Earth and optimal Google Earth touring settings are included on that page.

The Game

Each location that we will be visiting includes a form containing questions about some of our destinations.   If you wish to be entered into a drawing for the Best Buy gift card, it is necessary that all questions be answered accurately.  All answers to these questions may be found on the sites provided.  Some questions are a little tricky, so it is okay if you get help from a family member or a friend.  At the end of the trip, we will post a quick trip evaluation form.  This must be completed to qualify for the gift card. Trip questions will be graded at the end of the break, and the winner of the gift card will be posted on the Virtual Spring Break site.  All answers must be completed by April 13th at 11:59 PM.   Your answers will be collected in a time stamped data base.  If you post answers multiple times per day, only the last set of answers will be counted.

Sharing Your Experiences

Did you find something really cool on one of the sites we provided?  Have you traveled to this location?  If so, please share your story on our sister blog http://virtualspringbreak2009.wordpress.com/

All post submissions will come through me, so please be patient if you do not see your comment immediately.

Technical Difficulties

If for any reason you are having technical difficulties with the trip, please email Anne-Marie Wilcox at amawilcox@dorchester2.k12.sc.us   or amea_77@yahoo.com .  She will be checking her email a few times per day, so feel free to email her at any time.

If for some reason one of the links does not work, PLEASE email us asap so we can fix the problem.
