American crime writer David C. Hall's latest novel entitled "Barcelona Skyline",
in Spanish, has been awarded the XV Premio de Novela Negra Ciudad de Getafe 2011. The novel will be presented at Getafe Negro (Spain) and will be published in October
by Edaf. The manuscript is also available in English.
The panel, chaired by Lorenzo Silva, also included Ramón Pernas, head of Ámbito Cultural of El Corte Inglés; author Marta Sanz; and Esperanza Moreno, editor of Edaf publishing group.

David C. Hall, escritor norteamericano de novela negra, ha resultado ganador del XV Premio de Novela Negra Ciudad de Getafe (dotado con 10.000 euros) con su obra Barcelona Skyline
El jurado, reunido la noche de ayer 25 de julio en Getafe, estuvo presidido por el escritor Lorenzo Silva y compuesto por Ramón Pernas, Director de Ámbito Cultural de El Corte Inglés; Marta Sanz, escritora, y Esperanza Moreno, editora de Grupo EDAF.
Sobre el autor
David C. Hall nació en Madison, Wisconsin (Estados Unidos). Vive en Barcelona desde 1974, donde ha trabajado como profesor y traductor. Ha participado en seminarios, cursos y conferencias de literatura, escritura y género negro en diversas universidades de nuestro país, así como en sucesivas ediciones de Mayo Negro en Alicante y la Semana Negra de Gijón.
Autor de numerosos relatos y ensayos literarios, ha publicado tres novelas de género negro escritas originalmente en inglés: Cuatro días (Planeta); No quiero hablar de Bolivia (Júcar) y Billete de ida y vuelta (Ediciones B), esta última publicada posteriormente como Return Trip Ticket en Estados Unidos por St. Martin's Press. Es autor también de la novela juvenil El invento del siglo (Ediciones Edebé) publicada en castellano y en catalán.
Sobre la obra
Barcelona Skyline, una novela americana de género negro en español, tiene todos los ingredientes para cautivar al lector desde los primeros párrafos.
La experiencia y buen hacer del autor se perciben en la aparición de sus principales personajes: un detective privado de Chicago, una asesina a sueldo, un mafioso ruso y un sinfín de personajes más, bien definidos, claros, resueltos, perfectamente interrelacionados entre sí que conducen al lector por el escenario múltiple de la acción y sus elementos: la sangre, el sexo y los ambientes lujosos y sofisticados… La trama se complica página a página, pero los personajes son los responsables de definirla, resolverla y despejar todas las incógnitas posibles. This month Trilengua invites you to a very special evening of recitals in collaboration with Barcelona INK, a quarterly magazine of poetry and prose. To celebrate the third edition, all the readers who are reading at Trilengua feature in this latest edition of Barcelona INK. They are:
Tony Tysoe, English teacher and writer, writes short stories and is currently writing a novel about Ramón Mercader, Trotsky’s assassin. David C. Hall, American crime-fiction writer, already has 4 novels published: Cuatro días (Planeta, 1984); No quiero hablar de Bolivia (Ediciones Jucar, 1988); Billete de vuelta (Ediciones B, 1991) and for young readers, El invento de siglo (1998, Edebé). He also writes short stories, poetry and the occasional article for Catalonia Today. He is currently writing a novel based in Chicago, Barcelona and Alicante. Tom Chandler is an editor and copy-editor and writer of poetry. He lived in Barcelona from 2000-2001 where the poems he will be reading were written. He is Ryan’s father. Stephen Beechinor, Irish writer and translator of Spanish, Catalan and French. One of his earlier pieces was published in the Dublin Review. Ryan Chandler is the editor of Barcelona INK. He has spent the last fifteen years working on and off as a writer and journalist. He will be reading, along with two actors (Tamzin and Dermott) from his series of tragi-comic poems, Night and Day. This summer I will be one of the coordinators of a course on writing offered during the Juliols of the University of Barcelona, during the week of July 6-10, entitles Pensar l'escriptura. L'escriptura i el pensament crític. The course will be coordinated by myself and Dr. Teresa Naves Nogues, professor of applied linguistics at the UB. Participating in the series of workshops, debates and a closing round table discussion will be novelist Mercedes Abad, playwright Pablo Ley, journalist and author Mariano Sánchez Soler, professor of scriptwriting at "Ciudad de la Luz" (Alicante), poet and secondary school teacher of Spanish literature Dr. Fernándo Antón, professor of applied linguistics and editor of Journal of Second Language Writing Dr. Rosa Mª Manchón of the University of Murcia, professor of linguistics Dr. Sergi Balari of the UAB and professor of Catalan philology Dr. Albert Soler of the UB. En la propera convocatòria dels cursos d'estiu, ELS JULIOLS 2009 de la UB tindrà lloc el curs-seminari PENSAR L'ESCRIPTURA: L'ESCRIPTURA I EL PENSAMENT CRÍTIC coordinat per David C. Hall i Teresa Navés que aplega un equip mixt de creadors i recercadors. Dates del curs: del 6 al 10 de juliol de de 9.30 a 14 h de 20 o 30 h de duració. Lloc: Edifici històric de la UB a Plaça Universitat Barcelona. L1 Metro: Universitat.
Aquest taller-seminari divulgatiu i pràctic examina el procés d'escriure tant des del punt de vista del creador com del formador-recercador. Escriure bé va molt més enllà de la correcció gramatical i ha d'estar a l'abast de tothom que s'ho proposi, no només dels professionals. Encara que existeixen d'altres mitjans, com les arts plàstiques o la música, el ésser humà desenvolupa el seu pensament principalment a través de la paraula i, quan s'enfronta amb el pensament complex, a través de la paraula escrita. Per tant, aprendre a escriure bé és aprendre a pensar críticament. Comptarem amb la col.laboració de creadors del del periodisme, cinema, narrativa, dramatúrgia i poesia a l'hora que examinarem l'escriptura com a procés a través de les aportacions de la recerca empírica aplicada.
