Meeting 4, January 16, 2010

Theme:  Instructional Design, Teaching Methods
Goals:
    1. To understand the comments from my reviewers about my portfolio.
    2. To be able to describe and explain your explicit instructional design decisions concerning your course.
    3. To identify teaching methods used by other participants in their courses.

Things to do Before the Meeting:  
  1. Read Kees Dorst:  "The Story Behind the Design"
  2. Read Adprima's:  Instructional Methods
  3. Revise Course Context portfolio deliverable and post to DCCE website (by Dec. 30th)
  4. Write up Course Content portfolio deliverable and post to DCCE website (by Dec. 30th)
  5. Review assigned participant's course content and assigned participants entire portfolio and bring review comments to next meeting.
  6. For the next meeting, we're going to be discussing instructional design (teaching methods).  You should bring an artifact that exemplifies the instructional design of your course (or an aspect of it) and a document that describes how you articulate the content of your course with its delivery (that is, why your instructional design is appropriate to your content).

  1. Read chapter on Developing an Educational Philosophy from [Campoy, R.W. (2004). Case study analysis in the classroom: Becoming a reflective teacher.  Thousand Oaks, CA:  Sage Publications].
  • Other 
      • In February, we will begin to think about teaching philosophy.  For preparation for this, we would like to complete a Reflection Log (attached below).  The reflection log should be based on a single class lecture. 
    Portfolio Deliverables:  Both of the following sections should be posted by February 6th.  Single reviewer will review instructional design section, All reviewer will review entire portfolio.  Reviewers should review their assigned portfolio pieces and send comments to participant BEFORE the next meeting.
     Instructional Design section - Rough draft (see writing points below)
    Course Content section - Revised draft based on comments from last meeting.
