The Prince William County Police Department works hard to keep you safe and your valuables secure. The Police Department can’t do it alone, however; we need your assistance to ensure that you don’t become the victim of a crime.

Incorporate the following safety tips into your lifestyle to create a safer environment for yourself, your family and your property:

Property Safety Tips

  1. Do not leave valuable items in vehicles or, if you do, always place them out of sight.
  2. Lock your vehicles!
  3. Do not leave vehicle doors unlocked, even for a few minutes.
  4. Do not leave spare keys in the vehicle or somewhere on the outside of it.
  5. Practice Operation ID: Keep track of serial numbers for your items or take a photograph to aid in identification if the property is stolen and later recovered.
  6. When you are home, keep all doors and windows locked (to your vehicle and home).
  7. Keep your front and rear porch lights on, use motion sensors.
  8. Personal Safety Tips

    1. Report all suspicious activity to the police.
    2. Remain alert and aware of your surroundings.
    3. Discuss safety tips with your children and encourage them to remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times.
    4. Start a Neighborhood Watch.
