My Boarding Commitment

By accepting a place at DBS Boarding School in 2008-2009, you are agreeing to the following commitments:

1           Being present during boarding school times as indicated on the timetable

1.1          Boarders are expected to be present for every register taken, and not to leave the school premises without applying for leave and signing out at the boarding office.

1.2          Boarders are encouraged to start boarding on Sunday evenings and leave at Friday dinner or Saturday lunch. Boarders must be present from Sunday 9:30pm until Friday afterschool.

1.3          You may attend regular outside classes or activities only if you get parental permission and the Warden’s acceptance for regular leave. The Warden will pay close attention to your contribution to the boarding school community in deciding whether or not to grant acceptance for any regular leave.

1.4          During PAT 1 (afterschool from 3:35pm – 5:30pm) you are encouraged to attend clubs and school activities. This is also the best time for any external classes or activities.

2           Fulfilling minimum boarding requirements

2.1          All boarders are required to fulfill their PACES targets.
PACES stands for five areas boarders focus on during boarding:Personal goal, Academics, Creative cultural experience, Exercise, Service.
It is a system of minimum targets that boarders are required to meet, usually set on a fortnightly, monthly or similar time period. You’ll learn more about PACES when you start boarding.

2.2          You have a commitment to log your activities for PACES into your boarding calendar. Many different activities can be counted towards PACES. Involvement in school activities and clubs, external classes and activities, and even some of your hobbies and free-time activities could be included in meeting your PACES targets.

3           Contributing positively to the boarding community

3.1          DBS Boarding School is a community. It’s richness depends on its members being actively involved and contributing positively. Your time and contributions to the boarding community are an important and valuable part of the boarding school and you have a commitment to this. Some examples of contributing to the boarding school: taking up duties and roles of responsibility, supporting fellow boarders and solving problems collectively, spending time to enhance the boarding community, starting and running your own clubs or activities in boarding, etc.

3.2          The Boarding School may consider your contributions and commitment to boarding school when it comes to approving or accepting your requests for leave and other matters.

4           Your commitment (both financial and to the above) extends from September 2008 to July 2009 (based on full year boarding)
