- Formed in 1996, The Daylight Club is a friendly social club for adults of a working age with physical disabilities. The club is run by the members on behalf of the members.
- The club meets twice a week: on Wednesday at St Johns Church Hall, Harpenden from 10.30am to 4.00pm and on Friday at Christchurch, High Oaks, St Albans from 11am to 3pm.
- Lunch can be provided from the local shops or you can bring your own.
- There is a £2 charge for unlimited tea, coffee and biscuits per day.
- Transport can be provided at a nominal charge if you live in the St Albans district, alternatively some of the members come by public bus.
- We have a member of staff plus volunteers on site for each session.
- Annual membership is just £10.
- The club is open all year round.
- You can be referred by a health professional, a GP, family, friends or you can self refer.
- An offical assessment is not required.
- Independent adults with learning disabilities are also welcome to join
- There are plenty of activities happening on a weekly basis at the Club to suit all interests. We regularly have guest speakers who talk on various subjects of interest such as photography and poetry, also more practical topics like medical issues, transport, employment and crime issues.
- Regular workshops are held at the club, such as Arts and Crafts, Drama, Dance, Healthy Living and IT training.
- The club arranges trips to places such as the London Eye, Madame Tussauds and Hampton Court, as decided by the members.
- We also go on plenty of local trips to pubs, shopping centres, parks and more.
- Plans for the future include clay pottery, photography and drama workshops, on the request of the members.
- To join the club all you need to do is phone the Club Co-ordinator (see Contact) and arrange a visit.
- Come along for a cup of coffee and a chat. The club is managed by the members so if you have any ideas, please share them with us.
- After a year you will be entitled to join our management committee.
- The objectives of the club are for the members to interact with others on a social level, to help members return to work, enter into further education or to engage in meaningful occupation.
