![]() Elings Park is also called Las Positas Park. It's a local park for various regular activities, but the daykation feature is paragliding. See more photos and map below. Paragliding is a method of free flying using a non-motorized wing or canopy made from a specialized type of parachute-like material and rigging. You use the natural wind currents to float, and glide and move around hanging in the air. There could hardly be a more beautiful and easy setting to launch your experience in this sport than this hill at Elings Park. The day we took these photos, several local twenty-somethings were taking their first full day of training on the hill and having a ball. The park is located just off Las Positas Road, and you can see nearby Hendrys Beach from the paragliding hill. Unfortunately, it was a foggy day and the incredible view of the ocean from the paragliding training hill can't be seen in the photos (we'll eventually update these photos on a sunny day). Below, the paragliders ready their parachute wings along the ground. ![]() Below, one guy raises his para-wing to fill it with air. The instructor, in white, barks out helpful pointers and instructions. ![]() Below, the para-wing is completely filled with air, lines between man and wing fully extended. ![]() Below, he starts to jog down the hill to catch lifting air. The instructor always there to coach him. ![]() Below, he's getting lifting air as his feet leave the ground. ![]() Below, he's done it! He's got "lift off" and he's soaring off the hill. On a sunny day it's all Pacific Ocean views over the tress in the background. Below, the two instructors watch with satisfaction as another student soars off the hill with the ocean barely visible over the next hill. Location: Go south on Las Positas Rd, go left on Cliff Dr, take the first left possible onto a small road which isn't on most maps, this road curls up to a dirt road which takes you to the paragliding hill, watch from below or take the gravel road to the top. Take your own paragliding gear or arrange equipment and instructors with local paragliding companies before hand who will shuttle you up the hill after every flight. alternative fuel cars |
