My name is Dawn Corley, and I am an instructional designer for the DoDEA Virtual High School. This is my fourteenth year as a career educator. I bring to the profession my skills and expertise enhanced by my previous teaching career in the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS), my service in the United States Air Force, and most importantly, my love of teaching.
Recently, I relocated from Yokosuka Japan to Washington DC. This is a new job and I look forward to the challenge. We are creating 30 new courses and re-designing 16 existing courses for the DoDEA Virtual High School. Our goal is to have every class required for graduation offered as a distance learning course up and running by School Year 10-11.
Previously, I served as the Educational Technologist at The Sullivans School in Yokosuka, Japan. Sixty percent of my job was to collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to effectively integrate technology in the classroom on a regular basis. I also offered graduate courses to teachers and administrators in using technology owned by DoDEA. Topics included learning concepts behind using specific technology tools for instruction to maximize student achievement as well as using specific software such as Dreamweaver for web design and Adobe Photoshop for graphic design.
I am a Year Three student in the Masters of Educational Technology at Michigan State University. My goal for the completing the MAET program is to acquire the knowledge and skills to promote the use of technology as a means of delivering a richer and more challenging curriculum to all students. I believe that for educators, learning about technology should be a pathway to deepening their understanding of the craft of teaching. Thus, as a graduate student I will increase my technological knowledge as well as my bases of pedagogical and content knowledge. The topics that appear in the left navigation menu are listed in three categories: Web 2.0 Tools, Software Resources, and Best Practices. To get back to this main page, click the link EduPack for Educators under Web 2.0 Tools in the navigation menu. Web 2.0 Tools for educators can be integrated in each of the three categories. Web 2.0 Tools includes powerful learning tools that build a community of “Global Learners” through collaboration and communication. I hope to inspire all educators to integrate Web 2.0 Tools into their professional as well as personal technology lifestyle. The intended audience of this site includes all educators who have the desire to use Web 2.0 Tools in an educational setting. For a complete explanation of the meaning of Web 2.0 Tools and reasons why educators should use Web 2.0 Tools with students, please click Web 2.0.
I have included software resources specific to DoDDS educators: Pixie 2 and WebBlender. The rational for including DoDEA (Department of Defense Dependents Education Activity) software on this site is to introduce Web 2.0 Tools in conjunction with software specific to DoDEA. In other words, by using my site as a presentation tool, our DoDDS teachers will see Web 2.0 Tools in the navigation menu on the left. Thus, it will spark an interest for our teachers in DoDDS to want to investigate the potential of using Web 2.0 Tools in their classrooms.
In the navigation menu under Best Practices, I have included resources for educators to use when designing ePortfolios with students in grades K-12. I believe that ePortfolios should be utilized to their fullest potential with students. In addition, I have included resources for educators to use when teaching the rationale behind copyright and fair use policies. It is important for teachers to follow fair use guidelines in order to serve as excellent role models for students. But most importantly, I included the copyright information so that teachers would use the resources to teach students the importance of preserving originality and creativity of fellow individuals by observing copyright laws.
Please e-mail me comments, ideas, and best practices to share with other educators regarding the topics and contents presented in my EduPack for Educators website. Thank you!
