What makes High Tech High schools in San Diego County some of the best schools in the world? (10 minutes)

I was happy to serve as slide operator for this inspiring talk by Larry Rosenstock, CEO of the High Tech High Charter Schools in California. Larry was special guest at the 2nd National Event for Learning Futures schools and their Headteachers. He talks, at great speed (it really is worth playing this a couple of times), about his own background, the founding philosophies and some of the challenges facing the  education system in trying to reamin relevant in the 21st century. This is a 10 minute edit of a 90 minute session - more clips will be posted up on the Learning Futures website in due course.

Larry Rosenstock Talks To Learning Futures Schools

The Four P's of Engagement

What Is Student Engagement And How Do We Re-frame It For 21st century Students? (5 minutes)

A powerpoint presentation, with commentary, on a different way to think of Student Engagement. Based upon the difficulties the Learning Futures schools are facing in using conventional models of Engagement, I suggest a a broader, and more ambitious way of framing Engagement. At the heart of this concept are the overlapping spheres of School, Community and Family, with four characteristics (Place, Purpose, Principle & Prolonged) that we should be aiming for when designing curriculum and pedagogy with (not for) students

Why The World's Gone SOFT

Extracts From 'Why The World's Gone SOFT' speech (10 minutes)

This clip is taken from Keynotes at AMC Conference in Adelaide, South Australia and South-West Music Services, Taunton, UK, September 2008. The talk looks at a range of examples which show how young people, and our more innovative global companies, are communicating and doing business, increasingly driven by four social characteristics: Sharing, Open, Free, Trust. I'll put more of this talk here in due course.

Informal Learning in School (40 minutes)

This link takes you to an audio stream of a speech I gave at the RSA, England in December 2007. The talk was the final in a series entitled 'Inside Out: Re-Thinking Education' and my speech was on the power of Informal Learning.
The slides from the talk can be found here.
