Ropen Eyewitness David Moke, of Opai Village

By Jonathan Whitcomb

I met David Moke at Gomlongon Village, Papua New Guinea, when I was on my expedition in 2004. He told me about two sightings he has had
of the ropen. I videotaped our interview, as he explained what happened to him while he was in a canoe late at night.

He and his friend were fishing, when a bright light lit up the reef for a few seconds. I believe this is another example of the bioluminescent
glow of the ropen of Umboi Island. I interviewed many native islanders who had seen the ropen light. My American associates and I believe
that this is intrinsic bioluminescence from a living Rhamphorhynchoid pterosaur.
