Welcome

I'm an Assistant Professor of Business and Economics at Duke University. In my research I examine innovation, competition, and health policy. Much of my research concerns the biopharmaceutical industry. To encourage development of more biopharmaceutical treatments for neglected diseases, Henry Grabowski, Jeff Moe, and I proposed a priority review voucher prize. The prize became law in 2007.

I have also written a series of papers on business location. These papers, like the biopharmaceutical papers, explore the implications of new market entry, differentiation and competition, and the influence of government policy.

I teach health economics, microeconomics, and business strategy. In my free time I like to play basketball with the students and soccer with my kids.
