Author Dave Webb

Author of Books for Kids and Young Adults

Dave Webb is an author and educator from Pennsylvania. Originally from Mountaintop, he now resides in Monroe county and teaches in the Pleasant Valley School District.

Webb started his writing career in his teens as a sports writer for a weekly newspaper, then moved on to doing entertainment reviews and feature stories for two newspapers in Wilkes-Barre. Soon he felt a calling to become a teacher. He's taught at elementary schools in three states over the past twenty years and is glad to be back in his home state of Pennsylvania.

After becoming a teacher, Webb had an itch to do more writing. That's when he decided to write a trilogy  of humorous children's books with story lines loosely based on true events. Thus, the Slinky Inkermann series was born. Slinky Inkermann and the Crazy Contest was first published in 1996. A second edition came in 1998, followed by two sequels. A third edition of the Crazy Contest book will be available in the fall of 2007 at www.bn.com and www.amazon.com

Webb's most recent book is a short novel for young adults entitled Amber. It was drafted in 1997 and has recently been completed and revised for publication, with cover photographs of Hollywood actress and model, Bella Thorne taken by her mother, Tamara Thorne. The book tells the story of a young girl whose troubled home life causes her to hear disturbing voices. She tries to deal with her problems by escaping into a type of fantasy world, since her mom is almost never available to help her. Eventually she runs away and meets up with another girl on the run, who shows her how to survive on the street. This emotion-filled story is fast-paced and addresses the problem of domestic abuse and neglect from a child's point of view. It is intended for readers ages 12 and up and will be available online by December, 2007.

Webb's other writing credits include educational units and lessons he developed for books published by The Mailbox, which prints books and magazines containing ideas for teachers. Those books, including 730 Journal Prompts, can be found at teacher stores across the country. He also wrote a four-part fictional series for the Lexington Dispatch in North Carolina entitled "Back in 2000," which helped that newspaper win a New York Times award for millennium coverage in 1999.
