Today marks the conclusion of our extended preaching and teaching journey through Genesis.  As with First Corinthians, it has taken around two years – time well spent, I think.  However, I’d like to give a “heads up” regarding our approach to teaching the Word of God in the coming months and the 2008-2009 year.

We will take the nine weeks of August and September to outline five elements of our life together and four aspects of our corporate vision and mission.  The present dialogues (note the three this week on the back of the bulletin) are part of that formation of our vision.  This is what it will look like:

8-3   The Practice of Personal Prayer and Bible Study

8-10   The Practice of Corporate Worship

8-17 The Sacrament of Water Baptism

8-24 The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and Covenant  Relationships

8-31 The Commitment to Foreign Missions

9-7 The Nature of Church Government

9-14 The Priesthood of All Believers

9-21 The Call to Christ Community Church in the Twin Cities

9-28 The Call to Reach the Coming Generation

After these talks we will follow two tracks.  One will be an expositional study of one of the gospels.  The second will be called the Didache Series.  The early church practiced the preaching of both the Kerygma (the central truths of the gospel) and the Didache (the central practices of the gospel).  Much of the Didache Series will be thematic” and “how to” teachings like how to build a good marriage, how to raise healthy kids, how to handle offenses properly, how to handle your finances.  We’ll draw deeply from the congregation for some of these talks.

So we bid a fond farewell to the holy pages of Genesis and look forward to fresh truths that transform and order our lives and our life and mission together.

                  Grace and peace, Ned
