Dave and Colleen's Beekeeping Adventure

The journey begins in March 2009 when we decide to become beekeepers. We have no idea what we are doing, we just know it is what we want to do. Armed with the book "Beekeeping for Dummies" we set out to purchase all the stuff we need. Lucky for us we have some wonderful resources available nearby. The most valuable help has come from from friends, participants on the Northwest District Beekeepers Association Forum and Members of the NWDBA. The bees themselves are also teaching us more than we can imagine. Keeping them alive and free of disease will be our success. If honey comes out of the deal, that is a bonus.

So why get started raising bees if not for the honey? Because it is endlessly fascinating, the girls grow on you day by day, there is something to learn every day and it is good for our neighborhood and our environment. And it wouldn't hurt if they helped our fruit trees, raspberries and vegetable garden.

We've created this site to chronicle the adventure from the beginning. We'll update with photos, news, resources and things we learn along the way.
