The logo features the Arnhem Sheath-tailed Bat Taphozous kapalgensis
We selected this species as the logo for the Darwin conference because of its attractiveness, its mysterious
nature (it has only ever been caught 14 times), and it's status as the only endemic bat species to Australia's Top End.

Logo designed and drawn by Gerhard Koertner.

We happily invite you to the 14th Australasian Bat Society Conference which will be held at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory
, Darwin, 12 - 14 July 2010.

Darwin is located on the north-west coast of the Top End, in the heart of Australia's northern tropics which is the homeland to around 30 Aboriginal language groups. The population of Darwin is 121 000 and is regarded as one of Australia's most modern and cosmopolitan cities.

The Top End's environment is shaped by its climate. It has two distinct seasons: the dry season (April/May to October) and the Wet Season (December to March). During the wet, Darwin usually receives around 1500 to 2000 mm of rain whereas in July the average rainfall is just 1 mm.  Darwin's maximum temperature averages between 30 and 34 degrees all year round whereas minimum temperatues average between 19 (July) and 25 (November) degrees.
