Elizabeth “Litta’Bit” Huynh is a member of The Gang. Petite yet curvy, Elizabeth’s casual flirtiness and preference for slinky clothing has made her a huge crush object among Beaumonde’s students. However, her kittenish personality hides an intensity and an ability to navigate dangerous social waters that rivals even Alexander’s. Mother: Nhung Huynh Brother: Jason Huynh (14) Elizabeth is the daughter of Nhung Huynh, an entrepreneur who has a tremendous amount of power and influence in the area of New Orleans where Vietnamese immigrants live. New Orleans is home to a large Vietnamese community, and Elizabeth’s mother slowly built a business empire based in this community. Ms. Huynh wanted her children to be truly American, though, and she forbade any language other than English to be spoken around baby Elizabeth. As Elizabeth grew older, she exhibited the canniness and drive of her mother, and soon became the most important girl in her junior high school, though this position quickly bored her. Around this time, New Orleans’ politicians (like Lucas Budd and Jerome Johnson) soon realized that the Vietnamese community could be pursued for votes. Nhung Huynh began hosting parties for these politicians; at one of them, Elizabeth met Alexander and Lillian Budd. Soon, Elizabeth had transferred to the Budds’ private junior high and became an early member of The Gang. Litta’Bit has been dating Robert Johnson since ninth grade, a pairing engineered by Alexander and Lillian Budd. Before Robert, she was romantic with Alexander, though they never officially dated. This arrangement ended with the arrival of Emily Bellecastle at Beaumonde Academy. NAME Elizabeth’s nickname came from Alexander, who pointed out that her mother’s heavy accent turned “Elizabeth” into something that sounded more like “Litta’Bit.” This nickname is always pronounced as one word: littabit. (The nickname stuck because, by American standards, Elizabeth is quite petite.) Her last name is approximately pronounced like the English word “win.” FURTHER READING An in-depth history of Elizabeth Huynh can be found in chapter 42. |
