Sra. Hagar’s Class Procedures and Grading Policy
Behavioral Expectations I
expect students to behave in accordance with the following guidelines so that
my classroom can be a comfortable learning environment. 1. The number one rule in my classroom is courtesy and respect. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Students will treat everyone in class with respect and be kind and helpful to one another. 2. Students should be seated and ready to work when the bell rings and are expected to remain seated throughout the period unless given permission otherwise. 3. BE ON TIME! The school-wide tardy policy will be followed, and occasional pop quizzes will be given as soon as the bell rings. Students who arrive tardy will wait outside until the quiz is completed. Impromptu quizzes may not be made-up! 4. All electronic devices are to be turned off and put away in class. THE SCHOOL POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO. CELL PHONES AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES WILL BE CONFISCATED AND TURNED INTO ADMINISTRATION. NO WARNINGS! 5. Students will avoid the following activities in the classroom: eating, drinking, chewing gum, and personal grooming. 6. DO NOT THROW OBJECTS IN CLASS 7. DO NOT WEAR A CAP, HAT, BANDANA, OR SUNGLASSES IN CLASS. 8. Attendance and participation are an important part of your grade. The foreign language department policy is that a student will receive an ”F” for 18 absences or more in a semester. 9. No make up will be allowed when an absence is due to cutting or suspension. No make up or credit is allowed when a student is caught cheating. During tests NO TALKING OR COMMUNICATING IS ALLOWED with anyone except the teacher. 10. All school rules will be observed. Read and know the rules in the RBV student handbook.
Academic Expectations 1. Each student should bring the following materials to class on a daily basis: Spanish textbook, Spanish workbook, songs, lined paper, pens and pencil. 2. Do not throw out any assignments completed for this class during the semester. Keep your copies of songs for the entire year. 3. Homework should be expected on a daily basis, including weekends, and it will be collected or checked at the beginning of class. If it is not completed at the beginning of class, you will not receive any credit. Everyone starts the grading period with 100 points for homework. A student will lose 5 points or 5% for each undone or poorly done assignment. Each student is responsible for knowing the homework assignment before leaving class. Students must read their homework calendars, listen to instructions and read the board. Homework is posted on the internet and students should write the phone numbers of several other students in class, in case of questions or absence. 4. ALL UNIT TESTS AND VOCABULARY QUIZZES WILL BE MADE UP ACCORDING TO THE TEACHER’S SCHEDULE, within one week of the missed exam. NO MAKEUPS FOR CHAPTER TESTS. YOU WILL GET THE GRADE THAT YOU RECEIVE ON THE UNIT TEST. 5. Students who cheat will receive a zero on their exam and an unsatisfactory for citizenship on their report cards. 6. If your name is reported by a substitute teacher for misbehavior during my absence, you will automatically be assigned to Saturday school. 7. Please arrange to see me for tutoring, as
soon as you realize you are having trouble in Spanish. I am available on Tuesdays at lunch, and
before school by appointment between 6:30
and 7:00AM. Grading Policy Scholarship 1. An essential aspect of improving writing skills involves practice. It is neither practical nor realistic for students to expect every assignment to be graded. Some assignments will be graded and some will be marked for completion. Students will not be informed in advance whether a particular assignment will be graded, so students should always do their best work. 2. All grading will be done on a point system, with points being assigned for each task. Grades will be determined by the accumulation of points earned throughout the semester. The number of points a student earns will be divided by the total points available during a grading period. Each category-- homework, participation, tests, quizzes, and essays, will be weighted according to the scale and criteria listed below. 3. Oral participation in SPANISH will comprise 20% of the grade. It is up to you to participate every day in SPANISH. Their will be opportunities almost every day to participate orally. I will mark your participation points on a daily basis on the seating chart, and I will assign a participation grade once per each six week grading period. You may check your participation point on my clipboard whenever you wish. You may speak to me in English before school, before class, at nutrition, and after class, but SPANISH IS THE LANGUAGE TO BE USED IN CLASS!
HOMEWORK: 20% A 90-100% ORAL PARTICIPATION 20% B 80-89% TESTS, QUIZZES, ESSAYS, ORALS 60% C 70-79% ____ D 60-69% 100% F 59% and lower
Citizenship All students begin the semester with a Satisfactory (S) grade in citizenship. Grades will either grow to an Outstanding (O) or drop to a Needs Improvement (Ñ) or an Unsatisfactory (U) during the semester depending on student behavior, attitude and effort. Positive behavior which raises citizenship grades: Excellent attendance. Participation in Spanish. Helping other students. Working on improving Spanish during class. Obeying class and school rules. Negative behavior which lowers citizenship grades: Not following directions or not cooperating. Not bringing needed materials to class. Being out of assigned seat. Failing to adhere to school policy regarding cell phones and electronic devices. Eating or drinking in class. Not being courteous and thoughtful of classmates and staff. Arriving tardy. Excessive absences, cuts, unauthorized absences, suspensions, and cheating.
My goal is to teach every student as much Spanish as possible and to inspire my students to have fun while they are learning. I’m looking forward to a great year!
¡BUENA SUERTE EN MI CLASE ESTE AÑO!
