Coming soon... Grand Opening JAM Class January 1, 2011 11 AM - 1 PM Studio Sway is moving into a beautiful new space with a gorgeous 1101 sf sprung dance floor. Please come celebrate with us on our first day by dancing together. Join the teachers of Studio Sway for a 90 minute jam followed by a brief after-party. We're located at the northeast corner of San Mateo and Lomas in the Courtyards center anchored by Ace Hardware. We're downstairs, across from what used to be Fremont's, in #32, which is directly below Mama's Minerals. Studio Sway is moving! Wahoo! Studio Sway LLC has found a wonderful new home for Sway. We'll be moving to a new space at San Mateo and Lomas NE. We will open our doors at the new studio space on 1.1.11! We'll be movin' and groovin' on 1101 sf of sprung dance floor. We've finished painting the walls, installing the floors, and are now working to tie up the (numerous) loose ends associated with opening up this new space. We are excited to make the move. All Studio Sway classes will continue uninterrupted. You may notice a few items going missing in the coming days as we prepare for the opening. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me! I look forward to celebrating the new space with you! White Belt Intensive February 2011! Shout-outs from previous events... Studio Sway would like to say... THANK YOU!! On April 11th, Studio Sway sponsored a fundraiser JAM class where we cultivated the nurturing energy of community and celebrated "International Women's Day." We gathered in community to share our stories in our dance and in our discussions afterwards. We raised money, and awareness, for Enlace Communitario, a local organization that envisions a world without domestic violence. Enlace offers direct services, including counseling and community education, to Spanish-speaking victims of domestic violence. We also danced in honor of Mackenzie Kathleen (Katie) Moran and International Women's Day. Thank you to everyone who joined us that beautiful Sunday afternoon - we raised $635 for Enlace to use in their work to eliminate domestic violence. And to Katie - you will always be loved and missed by your family and the community that you shared. Rest in peace. Your story will hopefully inspire others to help those who need it and help those who need help seek it. Winter Solstice Play - JAM! Thank you to everyone who came to dance with us on December 20th in support of Peanut Butter & Jelly Family Services! We raised $230 for the organization. It was wonderful to celebrate community, discover equilibrium, and enjoying the joy of playful movement with our awesome Nia community. Founded in 1972 as Peanut Butter & Jelly Therapeutic Preschool, PB&J pioneered the use of interactive parenting and bonding programs as an effective way to prevent child abuse and neglect and as a way to preserve the family unit. Most importantly, PB&J's work includes play therapy. Studio Sway is pleased to support this important, local non-profit organization. Whole Foods Community Fair Studio Sway Booth and 30 minute demo We also want to send out a special THANK YOU to Grupo Zafiro, the local band that kept us movin' and groovin'! Many thanks to the band leader who kept directing people to stop by our booth and for letting us use their sound system for the demo. Thank you to all who came by to say hello and who continue to support Nia and Studio Sway here in Albuqureque. We appreciate all that you do. Thank you Albuquerque Nia Community!
Here’s a note from Sara to all of you. Dear NIA community, Thank
you from the bottom of my heart for the extraordinary, most wonderful,
kind, and beautiful benefit that you did in honor of Solomon and his
adoption last Sunday. I am deeply touched by your tremendous generosity. It was (and still remains) overwhelming and truly breathtaking. You are a tremendous source of support and strength. Thank you. Through
your generosity, I am able to bring 50 pounds of donations. I think
about half of that weight came in maxi pads alone - thousands of
them!! Also, there are hundreds of pairs of underwear, fifty pairs of
children's shoes, dozens of onesies, and the most adorable baby
clothes. You gave home-made blankets and a quilt, formula, diapers,
bibs, socks, toiletrees, medicines, everything imaginable. These
gifts will help so many children and women. If anything is not used,
it will be sold or traded. Nothing will be wasted. You also raised
$300!!! This will directly benefit the care center. It will go a long
way in Addis Ababa. I am so grateful for your generosity. To Diane and Beth who organized this event, to all of the teachers from near and far who gave of their time and immense talent, to those who stopped their Sunday plans to help me, and enable my journey, to the whole Nia community who showed me how powerful their love is, to you all, I remain deeply grateful. I don't think that this letter fully conveys my sentiments, but please know that I feel surrounded by your love and support. Thank you for strengthening me on my journey to become Solomon's mother. You are a blessing to me. much love, Sara
