Dance Oolites inc. fun.friendship.dance hope for today and a dream for tomorrow... Dance Oolites inc. was founded in February 2009, by the current President and Artistic Director, Melanie Coid. In 2008 Melanie, a special needs teacher was looking for fun and motivating methods to improve students gross motor and coordination skills. She implemented a very successful dance program. With much fun, enthusiasm and determination varying teaching methods and dance moves were implemented.Over a period of twelve months much progress was made by this original group, culminating in a class concert for around 50 family and friends, which was preserved on DVD. Holly, Angus & Melanie Around this time the Merry Makers Australia featured on Andrew Denton's Enough Rope inspiring Melanie to investigate the possibilities of teaching dance outside of the classroom to a larger group of individuals with varying disabilities in the wider community. Initial contact with the administrator of the Merry Makers Australia, Janet Macfarlane was made. Over several conversations it was discovered that both Janet and Melanie had a connection with Jenolan Caves. The dance disability group was christened Dance Oolites after the exceptionally beautiful, rare and enchanting cave pearls found at Jenolan Caves in the Temple of Baal.....Oolites. Our dance students and dance volunteers live in the Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury areas. Some of whom travel up to 90 minutes to dance with us each week.
