Unit 5-Genetics

This is DNA. It has a double helix.

This is a bases circle thing, you can find the code for the codons and anticodons.

Summary: Genetics is the study of heredity which is DNA and the traits that we have. Mendel experimented with the growth of pea plants and their characteristics that were passed on from parents. We have traits that we can determine our genotype and phenotype. We know that the parents alleles are  passed on to the child to make up their DNA. The chromosomes are our DNA wrapped up inside the nucleus of our cells. Meiosis is where one sex cell creates four new cells with completely new DNA. Protein synthesis is the process where DNA makes RNA and it starts with transcription. THe DNA splits in half so there is only one strand. Then the next part is called translation where the RNA polymerase goes to get the anti codons to connect to the codons. They connect and they are proteins that act as enzymes in the body.

Current event: Erasing signs of aging in human cells

Scientists are now beginning to reverse the signs of aging in the cells in elderly people. It has worked in human cells for people of the ages of 94 to 101. Scientists are now getting it to work properly, you can repair the organs that have grown old and weak. A few years ago, this is impossible, now we have achieved it.

We now can modify DNA in cells. This realates to biology because they are messing with the DNA which is really all we learned about this unit.
