DAMARISCOTTA HEART AND SOUL PLANNING
PROJECT
The Damariscotta Heart and Soul Planning Project began in September by
opening an office in downtown Damariscotta at the Chamber of Commerce office.
The office is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is
staffed by Project Coordinator Jane Lafleur.
In early October, DPAC members set up and staffed a booth in downtown
during the Pumpkin Fest. Hundreds of Damariscotta residents and visitors
stopped by to pick up information sheets and to "vote" with candy corn on the
things that make Damariscotta Special. The top 5 "vote" winners were Friendly People, Waterfront, Waterways and Water
Activities, Great Place to Raise a Family, Historic and Vibrant Downtown, and
Award Winning Library.
In November, DPAC members planned for training with the Orton Family
Foundation which will be held at Lincoln Academy on November 21 and 22.
This will include interviewing and story-telling training so DPAC members can
capture the stories and thoughts of Damariscottans about the past, present and
future of the community. Sample interview questions include:
1) How did you happen to come to live here? How do you manage to stay
here?
2) If you were talking with a friend, how would you describe the highlights of Damariscotta? If you were able to change 3 things in town, what would they be? 3) What, if lost, would fundamentally change the character of town? What element if added, would significantly change town? 4) In your lifetime (or since you have lived here) what changes have had the biggest impact on you and why? Interviews will begin in December. If you know of someone who should be interviewed, or if you would like to be interviewed, please contact Jane Lafleur at 380-4802 or contact a DPAC member. |
