Brief Commentary on Introduction to Informative Writing Lesson

After carrying out this lesson, receiving Cynthia’s feedback and reflection on it, I see some of the holes I need to work on filling in my lesson planning.  I have an extensive list of activities for my students to do; however, nowhere in my lesson plan do I address how I plan to communicate the importance and relevance of these activities to my students.  I should have started each activity with an explanation on why we were doing it:

·         Pair Activity:  Practicing writing to inform through selecting a specific audience and offering lots of background information and detail

·         Group Activity:  Practicing writing to explore, by creating an exercise that will help its participants discover something new about themselves

Another thing I should have done when developing and carrying out my lesson plan was plan out more specifically how I was going to model each activity.  For example, in class, I divided the students into groups and then explained the activity to the individual groups.  Instead, I should have explained the activity to the class and then divided them into groups.
