The Audience Review Lesson demonstrates how I as a teacher carry out my objectives as a teacher through my material preparation, teaching methodology, classroom dynamics and form of evaluation. Objectives I write my objectives from a student’s perspective because I believe it is important to focus on what the student will be able to do as a result of my teaching rather than just focusing on what information I will be transmitting to the student. Material Preparation I carefully list the materials I will need in my lesson plan to ensure that I come prepared to class and also to ensure that I communicate to my students what they need to bring in order to be prepared for class. Teaching Methodology and Classroom Dynamics When in the computer lab, I integrate the computers as a tool for learning as much as possible to help my students produce better quality work, but I also do not want the quality of my students work to be hindered by their level of computer literacy. This is why I introduced Track Changes but did not require the implementation of it in audience review. I also try to vary activities between individual (analyzing essay with grading rubric), group (audience review activity) and class (discussion on do’s and don’t’s of audience review) to give students of different learning styles the opportunity to shine. Another way I attempt to reach out to different learning styles is by always trying to provide visual (projection screen and written instruction on Moodle (see attached screenshot)), aural (out loud instructions and discussions) and kinesthetic (Track Changes follow along demo) input. Form of Evaluation I am a strong believer in the idea that teachers should communicate their expectations to their students. In this lesson, I demonstrate this belief by providing my students with a rubric on how their essay will be graded and allowing them to ask questions pertaining to the rubric. |
